need help with my rims
okay attached i have a photo of one of my rims. While i was scrubbing them down one day i notice the goldish/brassy part flaked off in a few spots and underneath it was chrome. Is there anyway to remove the gold part to have solid chrome rims?
Thanks
Thanks

its not terribbly dull but its definitely not shiny or anything.. kinda midrange-ish... Yeah the rims are different and i've only ever seen one other set and that was in a picture. They are bad they definitely beat the stock Sport Coupe rims

Re: need help with my rims
yea, lol i had 2 sets of aftermarket wheels on mine, and was just dieing to get the stock 5 spokes back on.........and i did lol
but yea if i had that sleel ugly SC wheel as a stocker i would have to have a set of chrome wheels, 15" to IMO big wheels dont go on old cars, no more than 18
anyway back to your problem, try to polish the area where it flaked, now this may remove more gold, so you may want to be carfull, but if the color under polishes then maybe some aircraft striper will take off the gold and then polish what you got, but before i did that i would like to see someone second my idea, im not to sure of paint striper on chrome
another idea
i seen it and and it has a cool look, but take and sand that gold to get rid of the flaking, cover up all the chrome and paint the gold part black....it actually looks good, especialy with some chrome lug nuts and chrome hub cover (on center caps what ever you want to call them)

Re: need help with my rims
Would i be better off finding someone that knows how to powdercoat? or just your standard base coat clear coat?
Once i get some more funds i plan on running some 17x8 in the front and 17x9.5 in the back should look good with the 1.5" drop from the tokico springs im getting.. But i got other things to worry about before i go buying new rims lol.. these get me by

man honnestly, find a freind that can paint good with a rattle can and use the engine paint, if you go with black then use the gloss black engine paint, i have used it on stuff and people think its sprayed by a shop.....i wish i could find the pic of the bullet hole wheels that were painted like i said....but i cant find it....like i siad it looks real good with a set of chrome hub covers and chrome lug nuts...i like that look with the outside of the wheel chrome and the inside balck with chrome hubs and lugs
as for the striping the gold off and just polishing the wheels out i dont know how well that would work, like i said i would like to see someone second my idea on that
there is an engine gold, but it wouldnt look as good as that gold and the pain in the but to cover each black rivit would not be worth it
if it were mine, id do the black suggestion thats just my
its your car do what you want----------
ohh yea i think that gold is a transparent gold that was sprayed over the chrome

spray bomb
thay are fun to throw in fires......im sure you know but make sure to prep that area good, spend the extra time to do it and do it right, even if you can only do 1 wheel at a time, dont rush it, you may also want to prime before you paintanyway chrome center caps i have seen at pep boys, if not EBAY!!!!!!!!!
chrome lug nuts are at any auto store
but you may check ebay for a chrome center cap and lug nut package save you some all important green backs

Re: need help with my rims
lol i remember thinking about making a post but i dont remember making the post oh well haha.. It's cracked pretty bad so i got some vinyl filler and plastic bonding agent to help fill and flatten the cracks. I'll rough it up a hair for the 3M super 77 to get a good grip and lay the vinyl on it stretch it on tight and use a little hit on it to help smooth it out.. im gonna end up cutting the speaker grills out and fabbing something up so hopefully that goes okay...
Back to the wheels
Yeah i'll prolly buy some Dupli Color spray bomb since thats readily available unless the local DuPont store has some gloss black spray bombs in stock.. then i might grab some high quality 2k clear to throw on top
