Best way to strip undercoat out of wheel wells?

Hey everyone

As soon as I have some warm weather I would like to clean and repaint the wheel houses. My car though was undercoated just after being purchased new (although never driven in winter so i dont know y the orig. owner undercoated it). My plan is to strip as much of it as I can and prime/paint. What would be the best product(s) to use when trying to get this undercoat off. I have heard everything from kerosene to a blowtorch and a scrapper!

I've done the propane torch/scraper method. Also used an oxy/actylene torch before. This method works, but it's messy (I don't really think there is a clean way to do this) and could possibly burn down the car.

I've thought about trying a chemical striper, but didn't like the idea of getting close to the paint. I was thinking of using a product called "Aircraft Remover". I've used it to strip the paint from a few sets of sportbike wheels. I'm sure it would eat through undercoating too. If you do use it, you can tape off what you don't want striped with duct tape (how the duct tape survives is beyond me, but it does). Be sure to use a good quality brand, no $2 Walmart special roll.

a friend of mine used some kind of lightweight hammer to break pieces of his off before he scraped. The hammer looked like the head of a nail...
