Has anyone ever tried to remove the outer trim of the ttops on their thirdgen? Reason I ask is I wonder if you could fabricate a new trim peice that isn't so thick, like the fourth gens have..

i replaced mine on my 89 2yrs ago . got them from ecklers , plastic , much thinner , worked great , easy to install . don't remember cost , think they were less than $50.00 . good instructions just a couple of molding **** to trim . good luck .

lol, that's why I came in. I haven't done it, but I know there are a bunch of people on here that just pulled that piece off completely I couldn't tell you how well it works out though.

One of my camaros from the past did not have them and it looked fine and had no issues.

 

So there was only the weatherstripping and glass? Hmm, maybe I'll have to play around with a spare set..

 

i got lucky when i bought my 89 for a grand it came with the thinner plastic on them
