Dent repair is expensive!

Quoted $585 today to fix the ripple in my passenger side door. They would pull it, sand it, spray it and clearcoat it for that price. Its just a dent! someone kicked my door if you didnt read before.

But I only got one estimate. I might take it elsewhere for cheaper- any suggestions?

You might get a lower estimate but it's still expensive. There is a lot involved even though "it's just a dent".

Grind Paint Off
Pull Dent & Level
Filler to smooth
Mask non-repair area
Primer to fill scratches
Sand/level/prep
Mask non-paint areas
Spray Basecoat
Spray Clearcoat to blend
Clean car/tools/shop area/etc.

Additonally interior door panels may have to be removed, and the door itself may have to be removed.

This is not easy work. It is time consuming, messy, and takes many hours that you don't see. The materials involved in your repair would probably account for $100.00 or more of that price.

You did want it un-noticeable didn't you?

Look an see if there is a company in your area called "Dent Wizard". I had a dent in the door of my truck and they took it out in 15 min. and $100. They fix dents by using special tools to get in behind the panels and working the dent out from the inside. I now they do a lot of work for insurance company's fixing hail damage.

it all depends on whether or not paint was removed when the dent happed, or creasing in the metal. thats where everything gets expensive otherwise it can usually be worked out relatively cheap.
