Insurance claim

So.. tonight I got in an accident with my perfect GTA. It's sad, and i was extremely angry, since it wasn't my fault, and worse yet, it was hit by a front-wheel driver... but that's now what this post was about. I was wondering, since my hood got somewhat damaged (and probably needs to be replaced), how hard would it be to get the body shop to replace it with an ASCD ram air hood? I'm going just to a local shop, not a dealer.

Any quick responses would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jon

Umm im not sure what kinda shop youre going to..... But try finding a shop that "deals" with the insurance ppl!!!
Trust me you can get a lot of stuff put in - and all u may have to pay for is one time fee to the insurance - there is a name for that fee - but its 3AM here.......

A Deductable?

Anyways, find someone who will give you a high estimate but to the point where it's not totaled. Then when they give you the money, buy your own hood and get the work done.

my car was hit a couple days ago and i'm looking to get the check in my hand and do it my way..if you work with a shop not in cooperation with the insurance company they will just write you a check...if you bring it to a place that works with the insurance company they will fix your car and bill the insurance company and you have no control of the money....just my 2 cents

It won't be hard at all. It's the bodyshop that orders the parts, but it's the insurance company that determines value. They'll pay for a stock hood or hood repair and you would pay the difference.

The insurance will probably try to "low-ball" you and they reserve the right, on older cars, to use reproduction parts at a reduced cost.

Depending on the other parties insurance company it may not matter how many estimates you get or for how much.... they may have their own adjuster. Also many insurance companies will pay only a body shop, not the customer, to reduce insurance fraud.

I do not tell you these things to bum you but to prepare you. It is an insurance companies job to pay you AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. Just be aware you don't have to accept this. They have to settle within a certain time period.

Insist on GM parts and cover every microscopic inch of your car, including frame and concealed areas looking for any damage. Hit them up for a rental car while your car is in the shop AND DON'T be afraid to notice that pain in your neck and shoulder that you're starting to feel .... that might need some therapy for a few years.

Well, you were all right about them giving me the least amount possible. First thing this morning they came out (this is Progressive Insurance) and gave me an estimate. They said the damage was only about $1500 worth of damage, and they cut me a check for $1000 ($500 deductible). First off, i think it's going to be about $2000 for the repair. Second, i don't think there's anyway I can work this out for a ram air hood. The insurance guy said that if there were any more damages he didn't notice, the shop could report it to them, and they would decided if they wanted to spend more money on my car, or if the repairs were "unnecessary". This really sucks. I'm going to get estimates tomorrow during my lunch break.. any more help, please?

The other driver hightailed out of there.. probably drunk. I have comprehensive insurance, so it's covered, but they're still cheap $hits. I think tomorrow I'm going to go to Maaco, since I used to work there, and see if they can "assess" some additional damage, and do a semi-good job, so i can afford the hood, and get the whole car repainted while I'm there.

Any input would still be loved
