4" or 4.75 Backspacing

I am buying some torq thrust 2 rims 17x8 from wheels for less for 237 each plus shipping. I have searched the boards and found that I can use a 17/40/255 on the rims with a 4.5 backspacing. Wheelsforless does dot have a 4.5 backspacing they have a 4" and a 4.75. Here is the question I know different tire brands somtimes differ a little in size. I want to be able to run any 17/40/255 tire available without clearance issues. should I get the 4 or the 4.75 backspacing Thanks

What if I just go with the 4" backspacing on all four wheels would it work Ok and look OK. Should I go 4" up front and 4.75 in the back

I knoiw this is an old post, however, I have the same question. (As you see I have tried using the search feature - hence reviving the old post )

I have decided to go with 17x8 in front with 17x9.5 in the rear. I will have to get a custom offset of 5.5" to make the rear wheels work without adapters. However, I would like to save some money and not have to pay for custom offset in the front.

I have read that 4.5" of b/s will work well in the front with a 17x8 wheel. Does anyone know if you can run with a 4.75" of b/s? I have also read that some have put as much as a 17x9.5 wheel with 5.5" b/s on the front and made it work. If this size would work, it would seem that a 17x8 with 4.75" b/s would work as well.

Any words of wisdom?

I forget to add that the reason for the post is because American Racing does not offer an "off the shelf" 17x8 wheel in 4.5" back spacing. **They only offer a 17x8 wheel with a chevy lug pattern (5x4.75) in a 4" or 4.75" backspacing. All posts referencing a 17x8 wheel suggest a 4.5" backspacing, but it is not available from AR in the TT II or the Hopster.

I assume a 4.75" would work, but I would like to see if anyone can confirm this before I drop a grand on some wheels!

**EDITED

4.75 bolt pattern is what you need

I see why you though I was talking about bold pattern (my mistake - bad wording ). However, I was talking about back spacing.

They (American Racing) only offers a 17x8 wheel with a chevy lug pattern (5x4.75) in a 4" or 4.75" backspacing.
