Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
You can adjust the headlight beam with allen head screws located on the top rear of the headlight assembly one for the high beam and one for the low beam. As far as adjusting the whole assembly on the car I just had to play with it to get it to fit the best I could I still have small gaps on the side but it is acceptable don't know how the guy in the original pics got them to fit so tight

I have one question for everyone thats done this. How did you mount the lights to the car so they dont move?

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
Im just about to start this and wanted to know what you used to cover the cuts to the rad support so you dont see it. If you got pics that would be cool
Also im gonna try to keep the top where the rubber piece for the hood is if its at all possible
Also I got a quesion on the wiring as the low beam headlights ( I think ) have the 3 wires goin to it. I ended up geting HIDs for it and was wondering how you got the 3 wire to 2 wires so the high beams would still work as Im sure the 3rd wire is for the high beams
Thanks

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
Z28 rider - those are the lights you dont have to cut the rad support at all from what I have read
KG427KG427 - I cant get the link to open for some reason
These are the E36 lights I went with
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/DEPO-BMW-E36-...item27cfa0c2ed
They are the depo ones so I will have to cut up the car but im not shy to do so as I really like modding my car as it is. Plus if its not what I want I can cut the rad support of a parts car I got here and weld it in without an issue. Gonna be starting this in the next few weeks as Ive been stupid busy around the house of late. I got some pics I printed off from previous members who Have done it and I will see where I can save some metal here and there. With a plasma cutter it should go pretty quick for sure.
Heres a few mock ups on the parts car I have

To be honest im not a fan of those at all and they look extremely cheap to me. When you get the depo ones with will see the quality of them. Plus I dont mind cutting up my car in the least.
If thats what you want to use go for it as im sure it will work but its not for me

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
one of the reasons i decided to go with these is they do not look like they came off a 90's model bmw they just look like a new conversion kit that was made for the car. but the downside is that i had to order a set of halo rings that were brighter than the ones that came with it, they were bright but not the way i liked it. the car would def stand out with them since no one has done this conversion around my area yet but i wanted them even brighter. i will post pics if i can figure out how to post them.these lights almost fit perfect i did have to shave a little to make them fit perfect but not to much. The ones u are getting i think will def look awesome im sure for that price the lighting will be out of sight, i just didnt really care for the style of lights, and i actually was told about these and orderd them then i started seeing others but im really pleased at how they came out im going to post some pics on my shop facebook page also www.facebook.com/jjautomotive im also going to try to post on this message board

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
I will post up pics and I think I will do a step by step write up for the swap as well. There are so many questions out there on the swap and I will try to cover them all. Ive got a ton of pics of my car since I started. As you can see so far i havnt cut as much as other people as im trying to save the rubber pieces for the hood that it sits on.
I still have to cut the bumper on a angle so the head lights will sit properly. When I get that done Im gonna fabricate a support for behind it and weld it either to my car or make it bolt on somehow. I will see when I get it finally set

not sure I would want to cut my rad support unless I made a mounting bracket that re-enforced the cut-out?

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
you could do that. I took a hammer to mine and its didnt move at all. To me it doesnt even really do anything besides hold the rad. Sure it goes across the front of the car but unless you plan on a side or head on collision its not gonna make a difference as ther its tons of metal left to keep it stiff

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
Been working on mine. It takes a lot of cutting, grinding, beating, and a little welding to get them to fit right but they can fit pretty nice. Not completely done but i thought i would post it anyway. Notice the up/down adjuster lines up perfectly with the hood bump-stop hole. Also notice the mounting screws. welded in a lower/inner bar to bolt to and and used the edge of the fender for the upper/outer location. It is very stable between those two points and some other edges catching to hold it tight.

Nahh man its not hard at all. Its pretty easy if you have the right tools. Driver side took 3 hrs to cut the hole as it was the first one I did. Passenger took 35min to do. Then 20min a side to make and weld the mounting brackets. Wiring another 20min a side and done. it can be done in a day easy

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
Well what more can i say. Im doing the BMW E36 Headlight conversion. As far as i know im the second one to do this. It took a lot thought and planing but it seems im on the right track. Right now i only got one side in and still working on
the other side. Wiring is almost done for the most part. had to modify the the factory head light wiring a little. Just so you know, i still need to cover up a lot of things. Make it look more factory. Pics tell a much better story

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
Time to bring this back from the past. 2018 was the last post with a question on what ones to get. Well, I started reading this and did a search. The OP mentioned to get the Euro version and not the US version. Said the US version sucks. As for the year, OP said 92-99 but I found some from Germany and they list them as 90-98. Here is their translated eBay link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Halogen-Hea...4383.l4275.c10
As you can see by the price, it doesn't cost as much as it did for the OP (he quoted over $300), all we need is the wiring and we are good to go. I think that I will do this myself. Sure, it's another copy from the OPs, but I haven't seen one like this in Indiana.

Re: BMW E36 Headlight Conversion
i got mine from ebay and installed. they were aimed perfectly without any adjustment. uses 9005/9006 bulbs, not hid. took 5 hours the driver side and less the passenger. no need to make a build thread.. i'll just post pics here.
i made filler side pieces and painted them black. cut the 3 plastic tabs off the top part. ran relays and new wires from the fuse block area for the bulbs. cut lot of stuff out, the hood, the bumper, the original headlight housing, the core support. made a cover plate which holds the headlights in place while sitting on the bumper; and the headlight housing butts the side and core support. they don't move at all.
my camera kind of sucks at night. makes things blurry.
