billet/chrome gas door
does anyone make one for our cars? or does another body style fit our third gens? i've used a flat one on the bed of my truck with that has no "lip" you just push it open and push it closed. hoping some other car would have the same curvature and size i could use on the camaro.

Re: billet/chrome gas door
I used a universal chevy one without the notch. I just simply cut off the notch from the original and set it on there. I adjusted the mounting so it sat deeper to compensate for the thicker (2 layer) door. I'll post pics tomorrow in the daylight...

pics?
i personally think it looks better the body color.
kills the look of the new challenger to me.
if i owned one, the cap would be painted, but its just preference.

look down about half way or more.. in this link.
and another link with part #'s
http://rcarino.home.mindspring.com/#gascap
dont know if this is the one you have seen.. shop and you can get a price in the $112 ball park..
i think doing the ring the same as the car would look good.
or maby doing all of it the same color as the car.. and let the bolts stand out...i was thinking about it.. but i just love the looks of my stock cover...

Chrome gas filler cover?
I've seen this on another GenIII Camaro that was formerly/briefly owned by a member of the club I belong to. I like it and thinks it look good. It's something different and I plan doing a similar mod to my car eventually.

Re: billet/chrome gas door
so 88-98 chevy truck doors take a little grinding off the edges
and its looking like the mustang one fits the same as the f150 and focus and fits our cars fairly well
found this in the description for a mustang gas door
94-04 Mustang GT / Cobra / Bullitt
99-03 Focus
99-03 F150 / F250 / F350

Re: billet/chrome gas door
Not hard at all.Just run the cable alongside the door up the wheel well.Drill a hole for the cable to pass thru the wheel well. The hardest part was modifing the saturn lever for the floor board. Its about a 3 hour job, not including body work.

Re: billet/chrome gas door
so yeah this definitely might be my next mod. its strange someone posted about this because i found this a couple of days ago and it got me thinking.....

they are pretty exspensive but I would rather have a Camaro part than one with a pony stamped on it. that is, of course, if it can be done. somebody measure a 5th gen door and let us know ASAP.

(but yes i know)
as for the thing saying CAMARO on the outside.. could fill that in/or mill it down also and finnish it to match the car..if it's the right size

Re: billet/chrome gas door
So the only cheap (75$), decent gas cap cover would be a 05+ stang cover? I'm particularly interested in a black cover that looks like this. No one knows of any way to get something cheaper?
84 1LE; I really like what you did. does the cable grind or anything? could you send pictures here or pm or even my email? timinsk@gmail.com

Re: billet/chrome gas door
The cable is enclosed in its housing. So it has no way of grinding on anything. If thats what you meant!Even if it did, there is little to "grind" on.Since it only moves about 1 inch when the lever is pulled.
What kind of pic/s are you looking for?

Re: billet/chrome gas door
You cant see the cable. Its under the carpet & panels.
This is the lever

The cable exits the wheel well from the inside.
Just above the filler neck.

& the latch attches to the fuel filler here.

Thats about all there is to it.

Re: billet/chrome gas door
Welcome. I think that black door would look sweet on my White Camaro vs. the chrome one.
On a side note, I found an interesting automatic door opening system. On the link, click on 'MTV Trick it out Finals' and they show an awesome fuel door. I can't imagine the price they want for this setup. http://www.fueldoors.com/

Re: billet/chrome gas door
I should do it like my wheels. Silver (polished or brushed) ring lip, then the door itself black!
If they are aluminum, I could order the brushed one, then get the door powdercoated satin black, to match my wheels, which are powdercoated satin black.
EDIT: I knew it would look good! It goes real well with the Snypers.

Re: billet/chrome gas door
Obviously this is just my 2 cents, but a brushed finish is a LOT easier to keep clean looking, polished will show any dirt, fingerprints, etc much worse
That, and I'm not a fan of extra chrome where it didn't come from the factory, my engine bay being the exception of course
But I'll take the brushed look every time
If you powdercoated the center black, you could also powdercoat the outer ring, and get just the look and finish you want?

I have a "few" pics.

There is also the Subfolder for when I had 2 9" ones widened to 11" & made the car fit them.

And that is the one I've been telling people about for years, but they keep trying other stuff, including Ford Rustang ones!

You can get ones for C/Ks, from any Pep Boys/Autozone/O'Rielly's.....

Re: billet/chrome gas door
hey thanks guys for the complements, all i done was bevel the inside edge so that it fit into the hole, then used a rubber hammer to bend it, then i sanded the door down so that when i painted it the paint wouldn't chip of, also i went a ordered some longer stainless hex bolts, cause the ones that come with it weren't long enough, i drilled the holes and test fit a couple of times to make sure it fit, just played with it till it fit nice, also don't tighten the bolts to much cause the panel will dimple, just use some loctite and snug them up. i always mean to take pics, but when i get into something i forget every time lol.
