Would this be legal???

I am just wondering if I took the hatch off my car, could I get pulled over for it. I have an 86 TA with no 3rd brake light so technically I'm not removing any neccessary parts. I know It'll be bad if it rains but I am going to the shore with a bunch of friends and was wondering how it would feel like that going 100 down a highway I live Jersey by the way.

First off, if your caar is an 86, it should have a 3rd brake light on top of the hatch. All 86's came with one. But then again, what cop is gonna know by looking at your car what year it is.

I think there was a post on this, and someone said that it may be ok as long as nobody is riding in the hatch area. Keep everyone in a seat and you should be fine.

In the Camaro Owner's Manual, there is a section saying not to run the car with the hatch up because the exhaust fumes can re-enter the car and suffocate you (believe me, I'm speaking from experience too... you can barely breathe after a few minutes). I don't know if you'd have this problem driving, seeing as how the fumes would be broken up by the air flow of the car. I'm not sure whether it's legal to remove the glass in your state, but the health consequences might be more important

Taking off the rear hatch will kinda kill any chance of security.... it will look kinda funny IMO and you may get fumagated... but hey, GL man

Yes 86's did come with a third brake light.
I used to own one.
Just some useless knowledge.
86 was the first year for the third brake light on the third gens.
Also it is the only year to have the light mounted on the outside of the glass, Makes it real easy to pick out an 86 when driving down the road.

Hey Maksik, im form jersey too. where you goin down the shore? Thats a pretty cool idea, taking the hatch off. I kinda doubt any cops in Jersey would be smart enough to pick out that your car doesnt have the hatch, haha. anyways, good luck with it and have fun down there. later
