If you're referring to the hard line that is bent to match the contour of the overflow tank, that is a discontinued item with GM. You can just slip a regular piece of hose down in it though and it will work fine.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the info. I'll just get a longer hose.

Re: 4th gen coolant and windshield washer bottles on your 3rd gen
So I did this mod with the coolant overflow myself. Was very simple and am pleased with the outcome, but what concerns me, is how do you know how much coolant there is in there? How do you know when it gets low?
Also, I'm in the works of doing the washer tank, but slightly modifying how you did it here. I'm doing it backwards of how the 4th gen are. The fill cap will be on the drivers half of the car and level with the plastic cover, so I will cut a nice hole in it for easy access without it looking too tacky. If anyone likes the idea, or wants to see more I can take pictures of my work throughout and show you guys.

The 4th Gens overflow cap has a dip stick on it.You check for fluid just like you do for your oil.
Also the system is closed, since water expands when heated.Pressure will force the rad cap open, thus hot water will flow into the expansion bottle. When that hot water cools down, it will contract creating vacumm. Thus ”sucking” the water in the expansion bottle back into the radiator.

I dont have a pic on my Ph, maybe when I get home.
You shouldnt be loosing coolant, its a sealed system. If you are then you could have a leak somewhere & it may even be internal.

Just did the coolant tank. SO nice not to have the big yellow tank on the wheel well. Haven't gotten to the washer tank yet but I WILL be doing that one too.

every one of the coolant tanks I've seen done are on the passenger side. My battery is on the DRIVER side. Would this still work for me?

Depends on how you mount it, battery's got little to do with it.Dont have to put the batt tray part to use.

Re: 4th gen coolant and windshield washer bottles on your 3rd gen
I know this thread is about installing both bottles but do you actually use that washer feature ? I don't like the thought of even washer fluid being flung on my window in that fashion and potentially on my paint with the wipers slinging it back and forth so I don't use it. Doesn't anyone else feel that way or is it just me ?

I don't ever use it just because of the fact that it never gets driven in the rain. Since 2009 when I finished my engine swap, I've only put 4,000 miles on it...I still wanted to have the functionality there though, so I hooked it all up.

Beautiful car you have there BlueZee28.
I just replaced the overflow and washer fluid tanks with brand new. Theres no fluid in the washer fluid tank but I like the way it balances out the bay with the overflow tank. They really help finish off the compartment. I'm going to replace the standard hose clamps on the top and bottom radiator hoses next with Gates Powergrip clamps to get rid of the old ugly ones.

Thanks I appreciate that.
I assume you mean you put new 3rd gen tanks in? Those are kind of hard to come by.
Re: 4th gen coolant and windshield washer bottles on your 3rd gen
Anyone have any pics of the cut out area around the battery tray?
I'm wanting to make sure I get it correct so the neck doesn't rub a bunch.

i just finished mine, do some measuring to make sure you get it where you want it. if you search google (i forget what keywords i used) i found someone made a template and i think made it so that you could print it out.

Re: 4th gen coolant and windshield washer bottles on your 3rd gen
I came across another coolant overflow tank with the battery tray section from a 4th gen and now I'm actually thinking about cutting out my battery tray and welding in the 4th gen one since it's pre-cut with smooth edges and it's made for the bottle. The cuts I made weren't very clean and I wouldn't have to worry about the 4th gen tray rusting as long as I painted over the welds...

Re: 4th gen coolant and windshield washer bottles on your 3rd gen
Sorry to bump an old thread but i can confirm that this is more involved on a firebird. The only extra step is cutting away metal on the plate that covers the front area since its not open like it is on camaros but it takes a bit more time. You need to to cut out sections for the bottle mount points and potentially a window for the fill cap.
