Headlight/taillight restoration!

Have you guys ever heard of headlight restoration??? Well I bought a set of taillights from a guy off of craigslist. They were just as dirty as mine but I wanted an extra set.

As I left where we met up to do the transaction, I drove past a place called "Hazy Headlight Restoration" I pulled in and asked them if they could do reverse lights as well. They said ya and I left the set with them for about 45 minutes.

When I came back to pick em up, I was shocked! he didnt just do the reverse lights, he did the whole assembly! It looked phenomenal!!!! I was totally surprised at the difference it made!

The pics show a dramatic difference but its even better in person! If you guys havent tried it, I strongly suggest you do! I paid $40 bucks for this job and tipped the guy ten. I have seen kits at autozone from ten to thirty bucks for the DIYers, but I am very pleased with the result.

Looks great and for $40 seems like he took good care of ya.
I have had great success with the Meguiars kit though.

Considering you don't know how they would have looked had you just washed the outside...they could have just turned out the same way. Which is most likely what all he did(just washed them).

No way! are you crazy! The set on top is washed! It just has years of dirt and sun fading on it. He used a special compound and a buffer. Cant you tell the difference in the reverse light??? Thats not just a wash. Like I said, the pics show a difference but you would freak out in person! They are buffed so smooth they feel like polished glass!

Re: Headlight/taillight restoration!

i admit they look very good . the same results can be obtained with a hand polisher & polish . removed mine for paint , cleaned inside & outside , buffed & polished . OMG what a difference . not slamming you but it's very easy to do . can be even done on the car with a small polisher like i have . i did it for a friend & turned out great . all that said your's look great . good luck .

So just putting a polishing pad and some turtle wax polish to them for 5 minutes would have turned out the same results. My tail-light center wasn't reflective at all till I did that and now it is almost like a mirror.
Glad your happy with the results without having to lift a finger...just saying...you could have done the same with just buying the product.

Re: Headlight/taillight restoration!

Its not that hard to do, did it to my headlights on my daily work truck(98 Ranger). They were in bad shape, yellow and hazed, could not see at night with low beams. Various grades of sand paper, rubbing compound, polish and a buffer made them crystal clear again!

Re: Headlight/taillight restoration!

I used the format from this Tech Article: https://www.thirdgen.org/taillight_polishing, I made some small adjustments and added a few more steps to it.
