Painting my engine
well i tried to do a search and may just not been looking in the right spot, but i also thought that maybe using "engine paint" in a search would yield quite a few threads lol. but i guess down to business i might be over my head or doing it wrong by reading what was on the back of the can of engine paint. i sandblasted and sanded the block, then used paint thinner to get it clean. so i used Duplicolor engine primer with two light coats and one wet coat(10 min waiting between coats, it was also about 60 degrees out, but i also was using 2 of those 500 watt work lights) and then used two light coats of the engine paint and then one wet coat. i just am wondering if its gonna start to peal off right away once i get it running or look like dirt after a bit.
but this is what it looked like before during and after......

if you guys what more picture here is my photobucket album, i didnht want to load up on pictures. thank you for any advice

Wheres the chevy orange?? ha but i cleaned and painted mine the same way and itll prob peel in a few inconspicuous spots, but i did not prime mine though, the shop i had do the flushing, honing, etc painted it and i just painted over that, so the primer might make a difference.

Re: Painting my engine
Ive painted mine chevy orange after i got the block back from the machine shop. They acid dipped it so I didnt need to sandblast. So far the only spot thats peeled is in the center of one of the freeze plugs.

They taped off my freeze plugs when they painted it, same when it did, its only peeling a little around the oil pan, just cause i didnt paint the underside of the block very good, you can check the build if you want.

You engine looks a lot like mine, except its TPI instead of carb. Chevy orange block and heads, black touches here and there. Looks good.

Re: Painting my engine
thanks travis401, but yeah it shouldnt peel right away or once you get it running, the only reason mine started peeling was cause i was towing the car in wet weather and the underside got wet. None of the other paint has peeled since its been running, so you should be fine.

Re: Painting my engine
well i thought about painting it Chevy Orange again, but since im thinking about going with a white, silver or blue body color that GM corporate Blue would have looked better. im glad that it wont start to fall off everywhere, i wasn't wanting to do like a show car, but i wanted it to look good
