I did 20% on my 2004 SRT-4 all the way around and have never had issue #1. No one has ever pulled me over or even mentioned it before. I'm pretty sure my 91Z28 has 20% as well.

Go 20% and don't worry. Thats my general rule.

Well in Rockland The cop's are always checking. I got pulled over 4 times in one day cause of the tint on my old car and all windows were legal. The problem is the Ricepatty (car club) they are bad and have the cops pulling anything that looks done up over just to f with them.

Re: US Tint Laws

I'm not really sure how accurate all that is. Just looking at it, thats a safe guideline, but here in PA theres no "law" actually stating 70%. Section 75-4524 actually states that you cant have tint that prevents anyone from seeing inside the car. I'm not really sure where that site got their number from. I guess a cop could get you though, and just say he couldnt see inside the car. Good luck arguing that one.

I'm posting just so that people know not to go out and think this is factual law, and get in more trouble with a cop who might be pulling them over by arguing something they saw on the internet.

Re: US Tint Laws

Or sometimes there is a loophole.

Here in Texas, you can get a Medical Exemption. Say excessive light is harmful to you in some way. Whether it is sunlight harms your skin (like an albino) or your eyes are just extremely light sensitive, reducing your ability to drive safely. Just get a letter from a Doctor...Send that letter (a cop) to Texas Department of Public Safety and you'll get a letter back from them stating that you are EXEMPT from that law.

Give copies of those 2 to the tint shop[ & they'll do whatever you want. Carry copies of those 2 latters in your car, shown them to a cop if he starts about your tint is illegal & he can't right you a ticket for it.

I know all this to be FACT, because I am exempt.

I've let cops go on & on about my tint. I've let them put the meter on my glass to "prove" that my tint was illegal. "Oh...By the way Officer. I have these letters of exemption." That really pisses them off, that you wasted their time when you coulda shown them the letters right off the bat.

Re: US Tint Laws

The info from that site for Washington sure differs from what I have on my car, which is legal, at 35%.

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN WASHINGTON?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Washington, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window. *Anything under 25% risks your vehicle being impounded*
• Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
• Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
• Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
• Rear Window Must allow more than 50% of light in.
Here's another site with different numbers. This site more closely matches Washington, other states may differ...

http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/

Washington Tint Law Enacted: 1993
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN WASHINGTON?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Washington, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the film only.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 35% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 35% of light in.
On a side note, window tinting facilities are not allowed to tint more than what's legal in the state. For military towns, they can do what's legal for the state the car is registered in. There are also exemptions like Stephen mentioned...

Re: US Tint Laws

I even though its different in some states than me 35 is not dark at all but it does keep some sun out. It isn't significant and the odds of u getting pulled over for it are slim to none. Some people i know when they get pulled over they roll down all their windows because they have a really dark tint like 5%

hehe.....Nope.

I've had an eye surgery where they had to cut my cornea out & graft in a new one. Kinda like a heart transplant.
