Q: paint my ground effects different color

Im painting my 91 rs burnt orange and i think i should paint the ground effects gloss black but i dont no what it would look like, i think it will break up the color abit. what do you think? Also should the black painted areas by the head lights be gloss or flat black. Thanks

Re: Q: paint my ground effects different color

Ask in the photoshop forum for a quick job.

I personally wont do it, in my mind, it takes away from the color. I would however do the headlight buckets black like you said with a black grill. As for gloss or flat, its been talked before, and its up to you!

Keep us updated when your painting or your painting process. Its always fun looking at pictures.

Re: Q: paint my ground effects different color

The 91-92 cars' ground fx dont work with different colors than body color. The IROC gfx worked a lot better that way because tehy were so smoothly integrated into the body lines. But the 91-92's like that always just look like they bolted some mis-matched parts on the car. The 85-86 Z28s could get away with that mostly because they had a lot of fancy pinstriping and such to help transition it. Early 82-84 Z28s could get away with it because the gfx were much, much smaller:

It just look strange with the 91-92 gfx cuz theyre so "busy". They need to be the same color to look right.

This one actually looks fairly good because of the type of car it is... an ostentatious drag car, but you can see if you just look at the front how the aggressive angle of the front chin spoiler and the flares and curves of the gfx break it up from the body a lot already. When you paint it a different color it makes it look like some kind of tacky ***** add on.

No dice..Sounds like it'd be tacky and un-complimentary..maybe a pinstripe if anything to break up the color..

Re: Q: paint my ground effects different color

I was thinking of going with flat/semi gloss black accents for mine. It's a one year color that's close to a burnt orange. This is what's on the inside of the center console: RPO label: WATER L8607 U8607 in case you were interested.

I wasn't going to use it for the headlight pockets though and can see where that might be difficult to keep clean. Otherwise I've also seen this color with flat black on some of the Dodge vehicles lately and like how it looks. I think the difference on the images above have a lot to do with the color change matching where the body contours also change. (Where it angles in and then back out.)

It might be me but unless you're going with SOM, some of the burnt orange/copper colors can turn out poorly. I see some of the newer vehicles with what looks like too much red and it just looks terrible. So be careful in your selection of body color.

Below are the Dodge examples:

Good luck with your choices and post pics when you can, I'm interested to see how it turns out.
