How are you guys going about smoothing things such as strut tower? Fiberglass? Bondo? Other methods?

Here's mine. Filled all the unneeded holes and welded plates over the battery tray indentions on both sides. Relocating the battery to the spare tire well and not reusing the washer bottle. I even "smoothed" the fuel injectors! They are wired in the pic.
Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
why didn't my wheel wells come out as smooth as some of the other guys in this thread??
Am I the only one who's camaro had ugly ripples on the wells? I tried my best to smooth it out, but it's not nearly as nice. What is the secret?

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
Lightweight filler, glazing putty, Featherfill G2. Three coats of BC, and three coats of clear.
Featherfill shot with 1.8mm primer gun bc/cc shot with a 1.4mm finishing gun. I use a deVilbiss siphon feed primer gun, and a Sharpe fx3000 finish gun. Pressure and viscosity have a lot to do with the finish takes practice.

I used my wife's 82 TA for mock up... this cover stuff is test fitted on her car....

Before paint

Here's the engine going in , just in case you thought you saw a turbo cover....remember, test fitting.

Hopefully before long, all will be in for a very smooth engine bay....Sorry so many pics...just hard to explain what I'm doing....KITT was supposely a Turbine engine. So, well, mocked one up for a carb , turbo engine..... Smoothed bay out and getting stuff all test fitted on wife's car, and can't wait to put in mine....Talk to ya soon...
NICE engine bays guys.....AWESOME!!! ALOT of hard work huh? OH YEY!!!!

I know its been awhile since anybody posted on this thread but was wondering how are you guys doing the blower motor for heat?.
My 92 RS had the A/c ripped out of it when i got it so not going to put it back in just need to get rid of the rst that goes in the firewall.
built a 383 stroker carbed for the car but wont look as nice as your guys cars

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
really wished i had a shop to have done this might have been doen already.
But once i get a small shop i want to pull everything back out and redo the whole car.
Has a bit of rust on bottom side were it seems the car was wrecked at one time. I pulled the factory 305 and 700R4 out and built a 383 stroker and a built 700R4 raptor

Don't need a shop. I didn't mine in my driveway while I had the motor out rebuilding it. All while working full time, and spending time with the family. Worked on the bay and my motor from 7 am to 9 pm every Sunday took me a little over a month to finish.
My car (along with many others here) isn't a daily driver. I have a 750 mighty demon with no choke tower, with a single plane manifold. Getting it to warm up is an issue in the cold. I don't drive it in sub 55 degree weather. So there is absolutely no need for heat, and I chose not to have A/C. I just drive back and forth to shows/meets and work a few times a week from april-october. No blower motor needed. Not to mention no radio, speakers, heater or a/c controls. My door handles, locks, gfx and bumper are also shaved and smoothed. Also have a manual steering box.

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
Not to be a dick but you can search for the stb on here along with many other things yourself. Edelbrock makes the stb ur looking for. And besides removing all the ugly crap, their are about 12 huge holes in the firewall to be shaved, all the holes in the frame rails and wheel wells and some of us like myself have gone as far as boxing in the corners behind the headlights. All seams welded and smoothed out. And like said these are not daily drivers by no means but show winning vehicles. I dont recommend doing this to a daily driver with its potential break downs and oil leaks.

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
I used a copper spoon and welded all the holes shut that where smaller than a dime, and ground smooth, then finish sanded, and skim filled. All the other holes had blank pieces punched out of flat stock, welded in place, ground down, sanded and skimmed.
Battery trays where removed and fit with same dimension sheets of blank flat stock. welded, smoothed and filled.
All wires and harnesses where extended and routed through fender wells.
All dents and ugly, uneven bent metal was filled and smoothed.
Whole bay was finish glazed, primed with g2 filler/surfacer, re-sanded smooth, then painted.
The price of gas has nothing to do with whether or not my car is a daily driver. That's probably the least of it. Number 1 reason being is I dont want to drive a vehicle around everywhere that I have poured my blood, sweat, and tears into, not to mention countless hours of labor and last but not least $$$$.

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
You ran your wires through the fender wells? I drilled a hole in my floor pan to gain access to the inside of my frame rails and fished the wires through and pulled them out the front where the bumper bar attaches.

Re: post pics of shaved or smooth engine bays.
Yes, technically. Actually if you pull the fender off you will notice a small grove in which you can run wires. These wires are not able to be accessed from the engine bay or from the fender wells themselves. You have to unbolt the fender and pull it back slightly and all wires are at your access.
Easier to fix shorts, or broken wires, and less labor. For me at least.

The price of has does not dictate when I drive my car either, weather does. I too have pit a lot of time and cash into it, but when its all said and done its just a car and when weather is nice is drive the **** out of it.
