91 Z Hood Blister Grill Inserts

Hey guys I have a quick question... My hood blisters on my 91 Z have black grill inserts that the paint has now worn away over the years and turned silver. I was wondering if these black inserts are held in with double sticky tape from he factory or are they held in a different way? I would like to remove them so I can respray em without masking the whole front end of the car. If anyone has any input that would be great thanks!

They are held in place by some stick stuff on the back of them. Unfortunately they do not release easily from the blister they are stuck to and they are VERY thin sheet aluminum. I have not seen any that have come off without distorting or destroying them. Prolly safer to spend time masking the surrounding paint heavily then prep and paint in place.

I took a look at them today and they do seem pretty darn thin. I really don't feel like destroying them lol. Ill mask it off just to be safe thanks for the response mike!
