I always joked, if I was going to do it I would take the whole hatch off and lay it in the grass, that way you dont have to lay on your back and chance F'in it up.

Does anyone else have problems with burning your tint when you turn on your rear defrost, this happened to me once and I have never turned it on since.

I got an estimate for my rear window for $85.00 and that's them removing the old sticky stuff from the old tint.

Tip,, have someone else do it

I've done a few tints before but never have I had such a friggin time as doing the back window on my camaro. For the price a pro charges around here now, the savings aren't that much by DIY anymore plus, most pro tint is metalized insted of dyed (like Gila, autozone tint) which means they can guarantee the color not changing to purple & (around here)they will usually redo the tint if you're not happy with it because they warrenty their work. They go as low as $$75-90 for a 2 door car here.

As for DIY, I recommend lots of patience (which I don't have when it come to window tint) and maybe an extra roll of film if your tolererance is as low as mine.

To help take out bubbles, ***** them with a sewing needle or something else w/a very fine point then, work the bubble out from the edges to the center where you poked it.

I did it on a couple and my friend owns a tint shop and this is how they do it.

Clean both sides of the window very good....when you think it is good, do it 2 times more! That is the most important step.

spray the out side of the window with water and soap solution. Lay the tint down on the back window and make sure the clear peel off side is up. The solution just keeps everything in place while you work.

I would do it in 3 or 4 pieces because of the contours of the window. go up several heater lines form the bottom and then cut along the edge of it (tracing the heater line and then cut all around the bottom(bottom of the hatch/window). You have a piece that will take up about a third of the window now and you have a piece of tint that is an exact fit. The best part is....you have nothing sticky yet. While the tint is still on the window, peel the clear side off. As you peel it back, soak it with the solution( and I mean soak! you can never have too much water)

Now you have a piece of tint face down on the outside of the window and the sticky side is up. Grab the corners and flip it around and stick it on the inside if the window(that should be very soaked as well). With it being that wet, you can slide the tint very easy and you have plenty of time to mess with it. When you have it in place sqeegee the water out for the center. if you can get the corners to stay down try the heat gun and you have to be very persistent.....if it still won't go down, let it sit and dry out for awhile...the glue will activate after an hour or so and it will stick down.

Next, repeat the steps for the second piece. The next piece will be above the last and you can use the heater lines again to make a break in the tint. When you put the second piece in, over lap it about 1 - 2mm and you won't be able to see the seem from outside. If you want some more details or have questions, just mail me.
