Post Pics of Your HIDS!

Hey guys not sure how many of you like our cars with HIDS but here is a spot that everyone can show what color HIDS they went with and what kind of aftermarket housing for them.. I personally went with the 6000K H4 low beams and the 6000K 880 fog lights. And what a difference these made driving this car a night I love em!

This is right after being installed... God I cannot wait to paint that lip..

Re: Post Pics of Your HIDS!

I've had these in the past and they weren't excellent just because of the cheap housings I had them in. I'm thinking of trying some housings like what brendan has in the pictures above, but modify them so little to no light exits the housings anywhere except the projector lens and possibly coming up with some sort of divider to give the sharp cutoff line needed to not **** people off.

One of my other ideas that I have gotten most of the parts for is stuff to make some LED headlights, yes that is L...E...D. How well it'll all be able to package has yet to be determined, but best of all is that they will only need 12-15v power so no worries about the additional boxes to convert anything.

I got mine of some cheesy website and I picked them up for 43 bucks shipped.. I will be honest and let you know that these are the cheap ones you guys see on Ebay lol... BUT they are sturdy and pretty well built I have to admit... I just took a little time and made sure everything was sealed where the openings are on the housing and everything came out great..

I did this for under 100 bucks so I couldn't be happier. I work for a place that sells HIDS so I got hooked up

That is a good idea after you mentioned that I am know thinking of doing it. Because the light would probably travel straighter than being scattered. Mine scatters a tad bit which does bug me but I can know see at night so no complaining lol...

The LED head light idea is sick I would love to see some on our cars that would be a pretty cool mod.

Re: Post Pics of Your HIDS!

HID's I believe come in 55w and 35 watt ballasts. The rule of thumb is if your housing was originally for a 55w halogen bulb use the 35w ballast. If your housing was originally for a higher wattage than 55w halogen use the 55w ballast.

If you use the 55w ballast in a housing that was made for a 55w halogen you will get lots of scattered light, with low efficiency. The amount of usable light will be similar to that of a 35w ballast anyway. The 35w ballast will work to the same efficiency and will not blind oncoming traffic.

55w ballasts work well on true projector housings or retrofitted projector housings.

I want to put HID's on my car but the kits on ebay are so cheap that i think there fake. where did you get yours from?
Ebay kits are far from fake. They are very real just constructed with lower or poor quality overseas. That is why they are so cheap not because they are fake. Honestly no HID should be put in a car without the proper retrofit. They all have more scattered light than a halogen and are more dangerous to other drivers. Anything over under 3500k and anything over 6000k is also Illegal.

They currently have led headlight bulbs on the market. They are standard bulb fittings with 60-100 high power smd leds. Ive seen them in person they look very nice and crisp but they are not in any way street legal. There is hardly no Usable light. The problem with leds is they are bright and have very high efficiency but little power. People can see them from far away but the light diminishes very quickly after it passes through the lens. This makes it easy for others to see but hard for you to use the light. Honestly they do look good in fog lights.

Re: Post Pics of Your HIDS!

Peopel call them "fake" because the sellers call them "projectors".Which they are not.

Also putting 55w HIDs in a housing made for lower rated bulbs will cause the chrome to gradually fade. This includes HID projectors originally designed for 35w systems. The extra heat/intensity from the higher wattage HID is a little too much.

The lense on these so called fakes is basically a magnifying lense. It doesnt really do much for projecting light.Covering the area around the lense will just minimize the reflector(chrome) portion.Since these are reflector & not projector lights, it will probably mean less light output. You could make a cover that surrounds the 4x6 less with just the round less exposed. This would keep light from shining out the 4x6 & thru the round lense, but again they are not projectors, so.....
