Forced to drive my thirdgen in this Il weather
I live in Il and the other day my blazer wouldnt start so I was forced to drive my 91rs in the Il winter weather. Was wondering what I can do to help protect my car while driving it in this weather? I hope not for long.

1. want to get a blazer badly, a K5 lol.
2. i'm in the same boat as you. i plan on hosing down the underneath for the salt, as well as the body. i'm not going to thoroughly wash the car till all of the snow is gone.

clean underneath and get a can of undercoating and spray it all under there.

just take it to a touch-less automatic car wash at least once a week to get rid of the salt.

As for the thread, make sure to wash it off and make sure to take your time driving. Don't get in a rush a make a mistake and crash it.

i'd keep the frame and engine bay as cleaned off as possible to avoid rust. after washing id to a quick spray wax. get the armor all wheel coating, and be ready to clay bar it when it gets nicer out

I've driven my camaro three times in the last 2 months. each night i'd take it to the carwash down the street and blast it from all angles real well before parking it again.

Your car will be fine. Just give it a thorough undercarriage washing.
A little salt for a few days/weeks isn't going to do jack if you've previously taken care of the car.
I've been driving mine in Indiana winters for the last 100k+ miles I've put on it.
A mild bit of surface rust underside and a little bit of rot in the wheels arch so far after 20 years and I never really wash it.
I think yours will survive a few days.

Best thing to do,
take off all moving, suspension and drivetrain parts, then remove all gfx and underbody plastics, clean off the undercarriage, coat undercarriage in POR15 or Rhin oHide or similar, then use hot wax to spray in all cavities you could not reach with the undercarriage protection, replace all wear and tear parts and put back together, applying same preperation to the parts you fit back.
That means, powdercoat axle and K member, use engine paint on engine and tranny.
Basically a frame off resto done right.
Have that done and you should be good during winter, just regularly clean undercarriage and make sure not to have the car sit in minus temperatures while seeping off.
The second best thing to do is basically attempting to do the above, without taking the whole car apart.
Products like POR15, Owatröl and similar will help a bit in doing it right.
If you´re not willing to go through such an effort, don´t worry about winter at all. Any half assed attempts will get you rust regardless of what you do. Winters really are no fun for 20+ year old cars like these.
