Scrubbing down the engine bay

Anyone have a specific method they used for scrubbing their engine bay down? I am debating repainting it. But not in the mood to cover up and tear out parts to get it done. So Im probably goin to just clean the hell out of it and put the motor back in.

as do i , purple power from your local advance auto is great . buy a gallon , a bunch of kitchen brushes & spray bottles from your local dollar store also help . a toilet brush is great for wheel wells . i have a bunch different brushes just for vechicle cleaning .

OMG i just realized JamesC is going to pick-up on the toilet brush .

Don't know if you guys use/have "liquid wrench" down there but that's what I use, the light penetrate/ lubricant (blue aerosol can) and a some rags. It takes dirt off with ease and leaves the surface gleaming.

When I cleaned my engine bay I used Gunk engine degreaser. This stuff works terrific on both the engine and engine bay.

Re: Scrubbing down the engine bay

purple power, steel wool, scrubbies of all sorts , and a few dozen toothbrushes, take the garden hose at it and go to work. if you have nice paint do not get it on the paint at all. it will eat away at the clear coat

Re: Scrubbing down the engine bay

Hemorrhoid ointment is only good for cleaning the engine bay, Be careful not to get the Hemorrhoid ointment on the engine itself, or your V8 will shrink to a V6, V6 to a 4 banger and so on.....

Hey man. You never know what random thing can be used as a cleaner. My dad used to be a watch maker and still fixes watches now and then and he has used Pepsi to clean gumed up parts for a watch when he ran out of the apropriat cleaner. They soked in it overnight and came out perfect.

As for what actually works I've found that combustion chamber conditioner works for removing grease. It would have to be washed off too mind you.

Coke is also useful for reapplying peeling tint.
