Hood opinions(paint inserts black or not?) Photoshop would be nice!!!
Here is my car now(well, before it was stripped for paint). I am doing the headlight buckets black, like EVERY Iroc should be! My qustion is the hood. My painter had an idea of painting the area where the louvers would be black like on the 82-84 Z28's. Another option would be to just paint the rear part of the louver(small rectangle at the back part of the louver) black and keep the rest of the louver body color. Opinions and ideas?
Also, if anyone is good at Photoshop being able to see the differences would be nice!

Thanks

Re: Hood opinions(paint inserts black or not?) Photoshop would be nice!!!
I looked at something similar for my z28 blister hood and this was my opinion: don't do anything. Basically between myself and my painter we couldn't figure out a good way to smoothly translate to the different color. It looked wrong every way we tried it. It just doesn't look good. The lines are just lost.
I say paint it solid.

I agree. I say paint it a nice solid color and leave it. Once you start adding little things here and there that are different colors it just starts to go all wrong.

With it painted the body color knowing how the iroc and daytona are supposed to look the inserts just will always look empty and that they are missing something... Imo

I would paint the back of the insert (the part where it rises) so it looks like the scoop/vent it was ment to be

Ok, screwed up the paint around the louver slots, but it gives you an idea. Sorry. Don't have enough time on break to do a better job. lol

My vote goes to just painting the inserts.

Like a stain black.....
Hmmmm
The ONLY downside to that I see is it not matching the buckets and grille(both going gloss)
Options Options!

Just a thought, but seeing how crude the black works, would a coalgrey for the inserts be a better option?

Re: Hood opinions(paint inserts black or not?) Photoshop would be nice!!!
Since you're going gloss black for the grill and headlight buckets, I'd go with gloss black inserts along with painting the "rear most triangles" black. Pretty sure that is what was meant by the following post.
Personally, I'd paint the inserts and headlight buckets satin black, (same idea as the coal grey PS, less gloss, less effect) but thats just me. I will agree that the grill and splitter (correct term?) being gloss lends itself nicely to the buckets and insets being gloss, so I think your idea would look good as well. Maybe for a subtle contrast to the gloss inserts, paint the triangles a satin or flat black. Might even make the flaps (scoop/vent) appear functional like the ones on the 83' CFI Z28 hoods
