800 grit wet or dry sandpaper and some 1500 grit and then polished with mothers aluminum polish. takes forever

Looks good man. Just did mine the other day too. Well, not just one day, took about a week to sand and polish them all and paint them.

Great job on the rims.No doubt it took a while but well worth the effort after you see the finished product.

Re: what a little rubbing will get you

Great job, I'm gonna have to spend the same amount of time on my rims too. I just picked up Mike Bremers old Black Iroc call Thor, Past couple of years he let some things go. Nothing that can't be fixed with alittle elbow grease and some hard work, Paint and money too..........But still Great Job...

if you really want mirror finish, get some aluminum rouge and a buffing wheel

Re: what a little rubbing will get you

I got my hands on a set of these rims and was thinking about doing the same thing, I bought some paint and clear coat made specifically for rims (or so says the can, I forget who makes it). Were you just going to keep them polished and waxed or were you thinking about using a clear coat?

Let me know how the clear coating works out since I'm on the fence about doing it.

I've heard mixed results about the Zoop seal. Some very happy, some not. Personally, I just re-polish once a year. No need for any sandpaper though since you only need that the first time. I "yoosta" use the white rouge, and it does work, but I found using Mother's Billet polish is just as good unless you actually have both wheels off the car, side by side, and under good light. On the car, you can't tell the difference, and the Mother's is a lot quicker. Keep in mind it's only as good as the FIRST time, so put in the time to do it right the first time.

Re: what a little rubbing will get you

Cliff how long did it take you to polish your rims? It took me 8-10 hours to get one wheel done from start to finish. I have to repaint all my wheels because I bought one gold rim to complete the set. So the process I went through was strip, rough sand, medium sand, fine sand, buff with red rouge, buff with white compound, mask for paint, then three coats of rim paint. I used an electric drill with buffing wheels for the buffing, it probably took me about 2 hours to get the buffing done.

True...I'm surprised by the amount of people that skip compounds/buffing wheels altogether. You also NEED to sand well with low grits for a high quality mirror finish.

Re: what a little rubbing will get you

They look very nice! Just bought a set of four, now I know how to keep them nice

One question, my rims have rear and front on them, WHY? Is there a reason that there are two front and two rears? Are they different at all?

Re: what a little rubbing will get you

Is there a certain type of paint for rims? If you are just going to sand and polish them is it possible to do it with the tires on?

You could polish these wheels in a hour easy.
