Powder coating?

I have a set of cragar ss wheels that i'm unable to sell and im not going to give them away.

So i was thinking about tring to powder coat them. I have never done it and wonder what was involed and if what i would like to try and do is possibel. Bassicly i would like to do the whole rim in black and the ss writing in red since that is the theme of my car. Here is a pic of the rim.

I do powder coating and you need a lot of stuff to do it. Those wheels would look great in black.
I would hook you up if you were a little closer. If you are interested pm me if you want want to take a drive to philly.

Re: Powder coating?

look for an old kitchen oven to use. Just make sure you never use it for food after it was was used for powder. Yes you can do 2 colors. Just fully cure first coat then cool mask off and do 2nd coat bake until flow out pull from oven allow to cool pull tape the put back in oven for full cure cycle. Word of caution most hobby type guns are a pita to apply 2 coats.

Re: Powder coating?

Mostly because the voltage output is not adjustable. You can get good results with the eastwood gun it just takes lots of practice. I started with the eastwood gun and I now use the kool coat 2.0 from columbia coatings it goes from 0 to 100 kv where the eastwood gun goes to maybe the 25kv they claim. If you think you might get serious about powder coating save the money to buy a quality gun its a night and day difference.

Re: Powder coating?

if your talking the eastwood kit yeah. and i would buy at least 1 lb. Those wheels need to be sandblasted prior to applying powder.
