Depends which state you move to.. I know that WA doesnt require you to convert the steering if your car is over 15 years old. Which your car is. Have to check the other states though.

Since he's in Green Bay, I think he's asking about if he moves down under.

From talking with Jim Hogan (where is that guy?? I haven't seen him post in months ) it's my understanding that all vehicles need to be converted to right-hand drive in order to be driven down there.

Yes you will have to have it converted to Right Hand drive which can be a costly procedure, you can get a mirror conversion which is basically they take the whole entire engine and everything related to it and rebuild it the other way (which means you'll feel like you're working on a reversed engine or Chain linkage which will keep everything in the engine bay the same but will run the steering off a series of chains and cogs like a pushbike.
Cheaper, but I wouldn't want to trust my life to a piece of chain.
But having 2 bucks for every dollar you have here, boy, it'd be worth getting the works

If you move to WA you will not need to convert! But you have to go for yearly inspections. If you move to NSW, then you will need to convert..

I don't understand...Why do you need to drive on the right side of the car? I mean, don't mailmen drive on the right side of the jeep when the rest of the US drives on the left side. Why would it matter?

I'd say bring it over
It's like 10 thousand to get int converted....but that is 5 thousand for you =)
For example, RHD 98 Camaro goes for approximately 55 thousand Australian...so I say, bring it.

I am about an hour from Sydney and it is required to be converted and complianced before you can register it and thus drive it home
You could always just drive without all that to your house though...it would be illegal though
Or tow it, since it's only gonna cost half as much =)

Transmission: T-5 (gonna buy the farm)
Since we are on the subject of importing to/from Australia, how hard would it be to get a HSV Grand Sport into the US? I want one of those so bad I can taste it. Does anyone know if we can have RHD cars in the states? I called a Chevrolet dealer, they suggested I get a broker in Austalia, have him ship the car to the states for me. I know the ones that are exported to United Arab Emirates, are LHD, but they have absolutely no emmisions equipment, I don't think that would go over well. Are the Holdens that are exported to the UK LHD?

Thanks,

In relation to the Holden's, they are not imported to any other country except some Arabian countries as far as I know, and they are made LHD for the Middle East...although I dont think that importing from there would be a good idea at the moment..if you know what I mean.
I have been wanting someone in the USA to help me about with bringing in containers of cars and parts so if any of you are seriously interested in doing this stuff please ICQ me
