Cost of paint
Cost of paint
Hey guys
Ive about had it with my paint chipping off here and there. I have a 91 z28 thats white. I was wondering what the costs would be for my father and i to paint the car. I have a gun, compressor, and can make a spray booth outta my garage. The real question is what would the cost of supplies for a white paint job. Also id like to paint the car a bit brighter of a white than it already is.

Re: Cost of paint
Not trying to be a jerk, but none of us (that I know of) sell paint, so to get your best answer, call your local paint supplier, or price it out on the internet - whatever we state might be wrong (prices vary per type, brand, location, etc.).
Re: Cost of paint
White if I remember is the cheapest most of the time. A lot of the $ you will be paying is in the paint and primer you need to know if you want base clear or single stage, along with what primer you will be using. You will need sandpaper and the amount and what grit depends on how far gone the paint is that's on the car and how nice you want it to turn out. Are you going to use sealer? How much bare metal and body filler are you going to have on the car after sanding? There is a lot that goes into it. You can always do the cheap paint job that people have been posting on here using tractor enamel or rustolium or you can use the good stuff. I don't know much about integrity of the cheap stuff but it seems to make people happy.

Re: Cost of paint
Different colors have different prices. Its entirely possible to spend as little as $50 on paint, and in excess of $5000 on paint. It all depends on the amount of body work, materials, and quality of paint you are going to use.
The clear coat UV protectant that covers the exposed carbon fiber roof the ZR1 costs $2000 per gallon.
The question should be how many quarts/gallons will you need to paint an entire car, and much $$$ you have to spend on it.

Re: Cost of paint
I just called my local supply shop. Autocolor base is $400(gal of sprayable),$25 for reducer and the Autocolor clear is $375(5 liters). UPOL clear is $200 (7.5 liters sprayable). European Passport clear is $200 (7.5 liters sprayable) Seems my recollection of costs was a fuzz off.

I used PPG Shopline sealer/primer/base and then PPG deltron (better than shopline) clear. Cost me $900 for that plus body filler, sand paper, and random stuff

I am under the impression you want to do it right and are willing to spend the money to get there. So since you are doing the prep. and paint yourself you are saving some money.Any way here's what you can expect. I helped allot on this project and learned a few things.
Here's a link to my prep. to paint photos. The price is under the first set of photos. = https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...nt-photos.html By the way the photo showing the rear 295/50r15 have been replaced with 255/60r15. Looks allot better to me.
