lemonade from a lemon

Hey guys, I've been a member here for a long time so I felt compelled to share my recent situation with the "family" here.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were on vacation in the Great Smoky Mtns. in Gatlinburg TN. I had taken my '91 TA down there because it was an awesome daily driver and I wanted something fun to take on The Tail of the Dragon and other curvy fun mountain roads. The second night we were there a storm came through and knocked a tree over on my TA. You can see the pix below...

The problems you can't see are the fact that the driver's door was sagging very badly, and the passenger door was actually up too high and had a huge gap where it met the quarter panel. After looking at the car as a whole, and given the fact that my wife and I are expecting a baby sept 1st, I decided to part the car out and try to find a replacement. You can see the parting out thread in the classifieds.

I replaced the car with this '89 GTA I found. I've wanted one of these since High School and I'm ecstatic that I've finally got one. it has 86k original miles, has never seen winter, and is in really nice shape. It is now my DD and it is way nicer than my '91 was. It has the power leather seats, L98, dual cats and T-tops. It is bone stock with an air foil and I put the Edelbrock cat back from my 91 on it. This winter the 700R4 is going in the dumpster and I'm swapping a T56 in but the car will otherwise remain stock as my DD.

Re: lemonade from a lemon

so how long did it take you to push over that tree so you can upgrade? naaah. jk

it sucks that the tree fell on your car. deffinately not something id wanna wake up too one morning. But that new car you got looks like a beauty. I like the camaro a lot too. In the end you seem to be happier with the new car so it's not all bad then. Nice rides

Very cool! Good luck with it. I'd love to see your progress on the T56 swap, when you do it.

Wow, beautiful car. I was wondering when you were going to post up pictures of your replacement ride... I had a thing for GTA's myself before I got the Formula from my dad. One day I will own a Flame Red GTA!

That sucks. But At least you're not dwelling on the carnage and jumped right back into another beautiful thirdgen. I wish I would've seen your partout thread earlier!

Re: lemonade from a lemon

Thanks guys. I liked my '91. it was a great DD. Mechanically bulletproof, paint and body little rough around the edges was perfect DD status to park anywhere. However this GTA is really nice and I've always wanted one. The TPI 350 is a little thirsty, but otherwise I'm happy with it. I'm still tweaking on the tune but so far I can only get 20mpg out of it on the highway. I'm still messing with my highway mode, I'd like to get 22-24 out of it on the highway before the 6spd swap. I know the 2.77 geared IROCs can do that easily, the 3.27 geared GTAs may not do as well. Most of my commute to work is 70+mph.
