engine bay dress up
engine bay dress up
my engine bay looks like the average 100,000mi car. I'm gonna clean everything and get new hood insulation. I might also get a throttle body plate. What else do you guys recomend? Anything to make cleaning easier? Any cool dress up stuff?
Thanks -Brian

Ummm.....maybe colored spark plug wires, painted valve covers, colored convoluted tubing, different billit covers. To clean the engine, i use gunk, then use simple green degreaser in a spray bottle and get all the other little areas. Then spray some tire shine in the engine after your done cleaning it and it will have a nice look.

I saw a throttle cable cover that would look nice on my car, but they don't make one for it. I'm not sure if I like billet and chrome, maybe just black and aluminum. I want to try and make it look simpler. Tpi engine bays usually look pretty cluttered. I'm planning on getting a strut brace too, that will make a cool difference in looks.
Another excuse to post an engine pic.
Just take off all of the little things you can and clean them up, use black magic or a similar product on the hoses and don't be afraid to get things a little wet. A friend of mine uses scrubbing bubbles (a bathroom cleaning product) sprays it on and lets it set for a while and then sprays it off. Seems to work pretty well.

Autozone has a radiator overflow kit that will fit under the front bumper/radiator cover in front of the a/c condensor. It'll clean up the inner fender area. I also pulled out every wire and every connector/sensor that I didn't need when I put my new motor in and wrapped what I did need in new wire loom.I used throttle body/intake cleaner to clean all the gunk.It seemed to worked better than engine degreaser.I repainted the steering box, brake booster, and sway bars, cowl, headlight trim bezels, and whatever else I could while I was in there.

coat all you hoses with tire gloss, and take 409 grease cutter or simple green to everything else. One other thing i did, was take just about everything i possibly could out of the engine bay and i painted the inner fenders satin black, along with the battery tray area, and vaccuum can area. While it doesn't look as good as some of these peoples engines, it definately cleaned things up.

White, yes that is my engine bay. I bought the upper and lower hoses from Summit for around $80. They dress things up a bit and are very functional.

When I swapped to the Vette heads, I pulled all my emissions stuff (I live in Southern Oregon where we have no testing at all.) I cleaned everything with Simple green and regular red auto rags, the hoses I put Eagle One Tire Wet on. The Tire wet does a great job of keeping the hoses glossy and the simple green cuts through the grease and road grime that builds up on the motor.
The motor had 102k miles on it, and I had just installed a STB and K&N in the before picture.
