Window Tint Job Gone Wrong - Help ASAP Please! Defrost area looks awful

PICTURE BELOW

I had my back glass tinted because the old tint was probably 15-20 years old.it was purple and bubbling. The tint guy said the rear defroster would no longer work, and I said I was fine with that, as it isnt a daily driver.well the thick orange stripe that goes around the back glass and the orange grid lines are all splotchy. After telling him numerous times that I thought it looked horrible, he would act perturbed and say that there was absolutely nothing that can be done for them. Is this true? Can they not be scrubbed of completely? If not, why does it now look all splotchy? Any help greatly appreciated as he is coming tomorrow to look at some white spots that were trapped between the tint and glass.

Ive never done a Camaro, but in the past, removing the rear defroster was just a matter of taking them off with a razor and buffing the Window. certainly an added expense, but not all that hard to do.

Its really hard to see what you are talking about though due to the reflections of the garage door though.

really? so basically all the orange lines you see in the picture can be taken off with a razor? As far as the reflection goes - basically anything you don't see as solid orange is just not there. Half of the orange is pretty much gone.

I think he is saying the rear defrost should have been removed prior to installation. The tint is laying on top of the defroster........

right, i get that part - i think he is going to have to come over and remove it anyway because of some white debris between the tint and the glass. Based upon my research though, it looks like those lines are gonna be impossible to get off

Guessing you weren't there when the tint was removed & I don't have great pics resolution on my phone---

Are all the defrost lines fully intact? If they are, I'm wondering if there are air bubbles keeping the new tint off the glass.??.
If some of the lines are missing or very faded, possibly got peeled // scraped off during removal.??.

yes, they got peeled off/scraped off during the old tint removal. The guy swears up and down that this was unavoidable "i've been doing this for 16 years, etc"

The adhesive is a bear!
IDK if extra steaming would be any help in preventing any of that.
What does it look like from outside - easy to see that the lines are fubar?

IMO, the installer should be responsible for the debris between glass & tint.
You should have been informed of the lines coming off during removal & give you the option of having them removed completely.

Re: Window Tint Job Gone Wrong - Help ASAP Please! Defrost area looks awful

the defrost lines do not have to be removed when taking old tint off, some steam, steel wool and patience is all it takes, i have done it twice. The guy who did your tint was lazy (and bad at tinting!) since he ruined your defroster and has bubbles/debris under the tint. I'd demand my money back at a minimum, and for him to pay the defroster repair bill. Really your best option now is new glass with an intact defroster, or just take the whole defroster off now, it's not too hard to remove
