Question for people customizing their interiors-

I have been working on customizing my car. I have already added in two 8'' blacklight tubes in the car (one on the T-bar part of the roof and one above the back seat on the crossmember by the hatch) and I have two 10 foot neon highlighting cables, one around the center console and one around the dash ending by going around the Z28-IROC-Z logo. I want to start going some other interior things in red (since the exterior is bright red)...anybody have any ideas about what elements to paint red and how to go about it (what paint..etc etc)? Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has pics of their custom interiors, please post!! Thanks

Red w/ black racing stripes
Pioneer headunit, stock speakers, Rockford 10'' punch woofers

Ricers beware...I eat you three meals a day

And the Camaro said to the Civic "Now, I know what you're thinking...in all of that mess, did he have 8 cylinders, or only 6? You just gotta ask yourself one question...do you feel lucky? Well do ya....punk???

Just as a warning, you're probally going to get all kinds of 'thats ghetto ***** wanna be crap' from some of the people on the board.. I painted the two tiny air vents on my dash pad.. (white) and they turned out nice.. I'm about to swap in my 4th gen dash (2000 ta dash) this weekend, so they're going bye bye.. as far as the paint, dont use cheap spray paint.. clean them well with rubbing alcohol, primer them, paint them, then clear coat them.. nothing looks worse than faded/chipped/peeled interior paint. You may also want to look into vinyl wrapping for interior parts if thats the look you like.. you say you have neon tubing on the interior, have any pics? never seen anything like that, and I'm curious.... Good luck with the painting, and be sure to post pics.

not an opinion, but here's some advice. you may do things to your car now like neons, but chances are in a year or so, you'll get sick of it, and take it out. it happened to me, I had a "CAMARO" windshield banner, a CHEVROLET on the hatch, door lock guards, neons, bass lights, and red interior lighting. one day I overheard a passerby refer to my car as a "kid car" I was leaving school and wasn't close enough to my car for them to know I was walking to it, and then I took all the "extras" out and off. I don't think my car has looked better since I took off all the extra crap. It might not be the same, but think to yourself, if that's something you want to be in/on your car forever. now my camaro is a man's car, it still sticks out, but it sure don't look like a "kids car"

some people might call it "rice" but when's the last time you've seen anyone over 25-30 in a riced out car?

I used to do all that stuff I used to have neons light up the floors by the kick panels, had them on my t top bar, had an underbody kit, had the bass bumpin all that good stuff, but it got old and took it out. I still have thoughts of wanting to put in my un sounds again cause it does sound nice at times especially on a summer day, and my underbody neons, but sometimes I think about when i see a non fbody or camaro drive aroudn with that stuff, and I realize I always think the same things "like dork", or "wanna be" I'll probably end up throwing the underbody kit on teh car again and the subs anyways, but not the neon tubes inside the car and all the switches, it really made the car look tacky. Just my opinion though

mac, yeah.. it's hard to paint/customize an interior and make it look good.. if you pull it off, it looks great... otherwise, you just wasted a lot of time and $$

But, I've seen it done. It all depends what image you want to portray.. I'm going for uniqueness (sp) on my car now.. (well, unique from a 3rd gen anyways..) and That's the sort of thing i've been looking into.. not paint, but small.. VERY small neon accents on the interior. my sub setup has neon on it.. screaming chicken etched in the plexi on covering my amp rack & 3 JL 10w3s... and once the dash swap is done this weekend, i'm probally going to do the 4th gen indiglo gauges.. they look pretty good IMO. but, as far as it looking like a kids car.. whatever. the 55 year old retired men in their c5s can think that all they want. this "kid" car still smokes them light to light. and, if for some reason they win, I still have the rice wagon and the rice rocket to educate them with.

I did alittle "customizing" to my car this past summer. I have 2 neon blue tubes under the dash board and I painted my all my vent gray/silver to macth my pinstrip and to match the cloth in my seatand break up the black of the dash (gets boring after awhile). I also changed the Lights bhind the dash board and the lights under the shifter to blue. I personally like it and have had alot of nice compliments. If anyone gets on here and says it is ghetto (COUGH OEJ COUGH) your gonna get a kick to the junk!!! i will get some pics of it later so check out my page in a few days

Depending on the color of the seats, red piping on the edges may look good. I think some Lamborghinis came with it.

Once I get a digi-cam (prolly just borrowing it from a friend), i will take a night time picture of the highlights and blacklights in the car thus far. I realize that a lot of this stuff is considered to be tacky and "kid-like", but you know, you gotta live while you can, and I'm workin the car up in all aspects- cosmetic AND mechanical. I have headers and a performance chip comming soon. I still want it to look hot, and in my eyes, if any things are considered to be "rice-boy tricks", they will only look ten times better on a thirdgen. Amen

Remember a little goes a long way. The best looking cars have all the little touches blended together so no one thing really jumps out at you. Even a really overdone show car can look good if it is overdone all the way and the theme is carried throughout.

Neons aren't the only way to customize an interior....

I have some painted dash pieces(not vents)
Here are some ideas...
  • Custom Stitiching on headrests
  • Custom door panels
  • Gauges & Switches
  • White Face Gauges
  • New Shift ****
  • And finally some Tv's...

Here's my girlfriend's car...lots of interior shots on the first page. She has some string lights in the interior, but they look a little too orangish in the daytime. We're hoping to get some different ones that are a true red...thats why they appear loose in some shots, they're not permanent.

He beat me to it, but here is a taste:

Red piping around the black nauga soft inlays is a red fabric rope I glued in. If only the string lights looked that red....

The vents have been hand painted around the edges touch up paint in the bottle.

Bird on steering wheel was filled in with rub on accent red paint.

The red on the doors was done with spray paint. Except the birds. Used the rub on paint again...

The red around the smoked plexi custom cut dash inlay, same rope as around nauga soft.

Speaker covers have red grill cloth....

Black carpet and a few chosen panels are black. Roof liner redone in black...

I just redid my dashpad and added some speaker pods to the top. Still waiting for it to dry. Might add some lights in the defrost vents.

Slash, you did great on that dash pad, no doubt. But why dig up a 17 year old thread to show it... again?

Re: Question for people customizing their interiors-

Just have to love those (any) cars that people take anything off that can be unbolted, popped off, etc., and paint it. Can't get much more import or trailer park than that.
Yes, people still do this, and the accent lighting is a wonderful touch. Especially when it's clearly visible, and just stuck on... crooked and everything.

I didn't unearth the post, but it wasn't cool back then, and still isn't today. Although, people are still doing it.
