Tips on engine repaint/clean up?
My 1992 Camaro RS has a completely stock 305 TBI engine that runs beautifully. But while running flawlessly, it needs a little bit of a clean up. The black engine paint is coming off of the engine block, intake manifold, and valve covers. But, there is also a lot of dirt and dust sticking to the components of the engine. Anyone have any good tips to repainting and cleaning up my engine to make it close to car show material without completely tearing it apart? I'll put some pictures of the engine on here, tell me what you think are some good ideas to make it look good. Thanks

Jake use the search function on the red toolbar at the top for a ton of detailing ideas. When I did mine I unbolted and removed everything I could from the intake and front of the engine. Have a set of Torx sockets handy for the accessory brackets and take pics as you go for reference. I used simple green to clean everything. Take your time masking and spraying as this can make or break the job. Aluminum foil works great for masking hoses and wiring.
Personally I avoid gloss black paint under the hood for two reasons: 1) Most parts were satin black from the factory. 2) Gloss black will show every speck of dust.

if you dont want to take it all apart then take it to the car wash and use the tire cleaner (greenstuff) and spray the engine down with it. liberally. let it sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse it off. do not put the sprayer close. keep it about a foot away and clean her off. then go to the auto parts and buy the can of stuff called spray engine detailer.

in the past I cover up all electric stuff with some shop towels. The I soak it down with wd-40 let site for 5 to 10 min then wipe it off. Its works great.
