Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

Bra's are the worst creation in the world. The creator of them should be hung for the world to see. They ruin a vehicles appearance and make me want to punch a baby everytime I see one.

Not a whole lot that you can really do that will not look fairly obvious in the paint condition. You really will need to paint the whole area to match it. I have seen some amazing things with a rattle can though...

Might be able to rattle can the damaged areas, and "color sand" the area to blend in the rattle can area, then see if it will polish out uniformly. Haven't tried this method, but similar methods work with touch-up paint from a bottle.

(.)(.) I want a visual on the 27+'s before talking about no bras LOL!

YOUR CAR LOOKS BADASS WITHOUT IT! dont add no bra to it man, and for mine and urs sake, get a badge on ur car. mine fell off too and i hate it lol, but then again some camaros de-badged look pretty nice.

-- on another note

Your car looks in pretty good condition for being as old as it is. just fix her up like i am doing to mine and we will be on our way lol

I would bet a weeks pay that is chevy black, and you can find it almost anywhere. You can do a pretty good job using rattle can lacquer, and clear coat.

Don't put the bra on. It messes up the paint like others have said. After I bought my car and got it home the first thing I did was take that stupid bra on that the previous owner put on.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

If you use one use it like the manufacturer says. I had no idea that the backing on these things really hangs on to the water that comes down off the hood. And now years later, long after the bra was thrown away, the underside of the hood where it folds around from the outside to the inside is rusting and there's a big spot that has come off the center of the hood and is also rusting/cracking. So... if you're lazy like I am - and dont take it off - then it's a new hood for you at some point too hehe!

I've had a Le bra on mine for almost 20 years. Took it off maybe twice. I have had no rust issues on my hood whatsoever. Might be a difference in manufacturer, or how mine fits on my Z-28, not sure.

I've never understood them. A few stone chips in the paint don't look anywhere as ugly and out of place as a bra.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

I have a black car; came with a black (obviously) bra so shouldnt have looked too bad. It was a Covercraft or Le Bra, can't remember. Anyway the straps had worn away the paint where they attached and when|I took it off, it lifted some of the paint from the bumper cover. Maybe crappy install or had been left on too long by previous owner. Enough to spook me from ever using one.

I used a bra on my '86 back in '86, but only when taking it on the highway. Made the dead bugs easier to clean. I forget what brand it was, but it was one piece design. The bra was also like a fashion statement back then.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

I had the bra on my car for 3 years straight bc the bumper looked like a POS and when I took it off I had a huge tan line. I lost all the color on the bumper, it turned gray under it instead of it being black. Had to sand it all down and primer it.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

They look like someone draped a tent over the front of the car because the ground fx/bumper cover were damaged. They dont fit the car right. They dont look stock. They don't improve the looks of the car. They ruin the lines of the car. They ruin the paint underneath them. They're fashion statements? Since when is a car cover a fashion statement? Is it a fashion statement because the cover is only over the whole front end of the car? Or do people just like the look of car covers? If you're that paranoid about rock chips you need to find another hobby or just get a covered trailer and trailer it everywhere. These days we have much better solutions, like clear wraps - see http://invisiblemask.com/ for one example. Doesn't butcher the appearance of the car and you can actually see the lines the body lines the designers worked so hard to make.

They just look like horrible band aids to front end damage, but even that is like putting super shiny ointment on herpes. Better to just rock out with the herpes.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

Bras do not prevent paint damage, they cause it. The only way you will get a stone chip is if you are following too close. A bra on the other hand will damage you paint with 100% certainty. Rain washes silt from your hood and deposits it inbetween your paint and the bra. Then, when you drive on the hiway, the wind will contantly pull the bra material slightly taught and loose hundereds of times per second, grinding the silt in to your paint. If you leave it on long enough, it will grind the paint right through to the primer.

I'd like to know how easy they are to take on and off. If they come off easy why not take it off before it rains, or after it rains to expose the front.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

When I was young and insane, I bought a bra for my brand new 92 Formula. It was a pain in the nuts to install, and the flip up headlights also each had thier own little bra piece.

Shortly after I got it started to tear because I used to drive full speed at every opportunity. I was happy to throw it in the garbage.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

I agree with what everyone is saying. The only reason I have one is because the front bumper on my T/A is a 100 times worse looking than my bra....paint peeling, spider cracking, yellow fiberglass under red paint showing...etc.

If it's that easy to remove, then that's like leaving the t tops off and complaining about the interior getting wet!

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

dont know if this has been said already but if you leave it on long enough, the paint under it will remain un-UV'd and oxidized whereas the rest will oxidize and when you do finally take it off, youre going to see the outline in the paint..so, no..no bra, brah

That looks like the exact one I had. Velcro tape in front of the headlights, but my headlight "shower caps" never fit right so I never bothered with them.

Re: To Bra or Not to Bra

No bras.. Unless your using one to hide a damaged, multi colored uneven pos of a bumper like stahrman said.
