Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
I'm murdering (flat black) my camaro and having the louvers be solid aqua flake. My dad suggested that we also do the spoiler with the aqua flake or follow the spoiler line down so that the whole back is then aqua flake. I want suggestions on what would look the best, thanks

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
Ohhhhhh snap!!!! That is exactly what I was gonna say LOL!
Honestly dude the satin/matte paints look cool when applied properly, but most home jobs appears to make the car look like its in project stage/primer. I think that they look the best when used as an accent.
I'm not sure I'm following your aqua flake theme, but if your putting that color on the louvers, and the spoiler and the rest is black I would say re-think the design. both areas will stick out like a sore thumb and not flow.
Your car do what you want though.

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
I see were your all coming from but either way it would of had to be repainted because the paint was in pretty rough shape. And my dad knows what hes doing so the paint job will be perfect.
And I've already been told its a shame what I'm doing to the car, but also that it will look cool
I want the louvers to stick out that's why i'm going with flake so that it will pop
When its done I'll have to post pics
P.S. Me and my dad are doing this all ourselves, I sanded the whole car and he's painting

It's a pretty nice color but I think black clearcoat with the red stripes and louvers would look better.

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
IF you manage to get the flat black so it looks correct, which is rare and very very difficult, do you have any idea how hard it is to take care of?
read this article for a little idea

Would you rather him not have any interest in doing anything to it and just sending it to the scrap yard? Besides, he lives in Wisconsin so we'll never have to see it

no, i'd rather he fix it up nice. I'd like to think there are other options than make it ugly or crush it

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
Everytime someone wants to paint their car they go accent color crazy and start painting random parts different colors. These cars just dont look that good with multi-color schemes the vast majority of the time.
THIS is one of the few exceptions:

Also, Badnblk's car is a good example of understated accent painting.
But Im interested to see how this one turns out anyway.

Wow, first off you owe $10 because I did click on the link, thanks for the info
Second, I'm a girl not a guy -insert stereotypes about girls here-
Third, I love my car and wanted to paint it so that every time I look at it it would bring a smile to my face (which it does
)
Fourth here are pictures, not bad for being done in a sh**** garage

Thanks for all of your suggestions too
And if the paint does start fading or whatever then we'll just go back and do satin

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
The car could have looked good. Had you got some nice IROC wheels and painted the louvers black, it would have looked pretty sharp.
Even if you had painted it with that blue on the car(toning down the flake a bit), it would've looked somewhat decent.
I can't even string together the words to describe how silly it looks. My comments would get me banned.
All I'm gonna say is, I hope you never decide to sell it. You're gonna have a rough time getting rid of that car.

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
Im not digging that at all, it looks like you had a black primer car and took some aqua blue parts from another car. Now its waiting on a complete paint job, I think you could have painted it all that aqua(no flake) blue with some nice white or dark grey stripe would have looked good.
BUT.........with that being said its just paint and can be removed just a fast as it was applied if you didn't like it. I give you 2 thumbs up just for painting it with your dad and having fun. I would have killed to have gotten to do that with my dad growing up, but instead had to do it by myself with no support.
just my 2 cents

just my 2 cents100% agree. The blue is actually kind of cool. but even if you painted the hideous flat black a with decent paint, it would look disjointed.
that car is a mess

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
I hate to say it, but that explains a lot.
The blue reminds me of my sister's nail polish. Also, the lines just don't mesh well at all along with what all odd areas you chose to paint. Gloss black would've looked better, but you like satin, so more power to you.
On the contrary, you and your dad did great work for a DIY paintjob, I don't see any (noticeable) blemishes or imperfections.

I like matte/satin black on the thirdgens that are going more of that modern slammed street demon look or even the drag car look. But accenting random things around the car just because have enough paint leftover to do it isn't necessarily a good idea.

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
It looks worse than I thought, but best part about it is I don't have to drive it.
It would have looked great with just painting the louvers black, and peeling off the stickers. I think what you learned in the paint/body procedures here will be awesome for you when your tastes grow up a little and you want to paint your car a solid color. I still suck at painting cars, so you and your dad should totally pat yourselves on your back for the execution. Hope you stick around on the board long enough to learn stuff from us... like bass boat flakes are for lowriders

Re: Paint Suggestions for Flat Black Camaro
The satin paint above looks like it was done with rattle cans. The finish is very inconsistent. There appear to be a lot of flaws in the body also. Based on that, the finish doesn't look smooth and people will just assume you're doing body work and spray bombed the car in primer.
