fixing rusty fog light bezels

This is a simple project I am doing along with my retrofit HID headlight upgrade which can also be found in the Appearance section. Just wanted to hopefully inspire someone who is sick of looking at their rusty fog light trim.

I removed the bezel from the housing using a flat head screw driver. The bezel has a thin plastic insulation inside it that I also removed because I didnt want to ruin it when the bezels get sand blasted and powdercoated.

This whole process cost me $20 (sandblast and powdercoat) at a local powdercoating business. I will have them back probably tomorrow or Monday so I can post up pictures of the finished product.

Here are before pictures.

Nice work man! Can't wait to see the finished result. I spray bombed mine on the 91, and somehow the ones on my 92 are in great shape.

Re: fixing rusty fog light bezels

I thought about doing that because it would be cheaper just getting an aerosol can of black paint. But, they are so much of a pain to remove from the car I figured if I use paint and it chips and rusts again I dont want to have to deal with it a second time. Powdercoat should be more durable.

Much better method of doing it, and your PC guys does it for a fair price. I would have if I would have thought it though a little more. Should have him do the headlight bezels too

Doh... didnt think about that! I might have to do that before I install the HID's...still have to pay for the HID kit first which is priority #1.

Man that's the understatement of the year. I removed mine last week, wow. The factory used loctite on a superfine threaded screw that I couldn't get my stubbiest screwdriver to go straight on because of clearance. Hardest single thing I ever did to my car, and I've done some work on it. Took about an hour to get each one. I wouldn't advise trying to use a power driver or the philips head will strip out before you make one turn.

EDIT: I'm going to go ahead and get mine powdercoated too, but I'll probably leave them off for a while. I like the 1LE look for now.

Re: fixing rusty fog light bezels

I think back when I took mine out I used a socket wrench with a phillips socket...still not the easiest thing to get to.

I have had mine off for about 4 yrs now with a custom mesh overlay over an all black bowtie Z28 grill. I am changing it up (again) and putting a MINT brand new bowtie grill on with the freshened up fogs.

Re: fixing rusty fog light bezels

I did the headlight bezels like that too on my last 3rd gen- what a difference to stock! It was like Megan Fox, first without eyeliner, then WITH. That may sound weird, but the gloss black bezels just made the headlights 'pop'! Plus, they did not chip like painted ones would...
