Bringing back the Camaro/Firebird

I think that this falls under "apparance", and hopefully it will not be locked. As you all should know by now, Chevrolet has discontinued the F-Body. It has been rumored that the Camaro, at least, may return in a few years. I have grave concerns about this, considering what happened to another classic Chevy platform after it was discontinued and then brought back. The Impala. Truly a classic car in every sense of the word. Discontinued in 1996-1997, and brought back for 2000 a gutted, dismal shell of its former self. Front wheel drive. V-6. And those hideous tailights! In my opinion, Chevy should have left well enough alone, and not changed the Impala so radically. Now, the Camaro has gone the way of the Impala in 1996. If Chevy stays "true to form", it is a good possibility that we will be seeing a front wheel drive 6 cyl Camaro in the future, leaving only the Mustang as the last true American muscle car. The designers at Chevrolet need to quit riding the Ganja Train while dreaming up new designs before the Camaro, at least as we know it, is merely a fond memory.

Dude i think GM is aware of our loyalty towards the F-Body. I know they won't do anything stupid. They want to make money. That's priority #1. It wouldn't make business sense to do away with a performance platform that has so many loyal followers.

Unfortunately, as much as we don't like it, the speculation that we will be seeing a fwd camaro is entirely possible. The point about making money is well founded, which is exactly why this will happen. It costs infinitely less to make a modular, fwd transaxle car than it does to build a rwd, v-8 machine. They can charge the same money for the Camaro name, and make gobs of profit doing it. Unfortunately, the Mustang outsold the Camaro lately, and is much more versatile as a entry level performance vehicle. After all, the average cost is considerably less than our beloved Camaro. We all know that the Camaro is the true muscle car, though, and those Mudstain ***s just can't handle the raw power, so they wimp out and but rustangs all day long. My father has worked for GM for 30 years, and he is pretty familiar with the marketing strategies. He seems to believe that the whole reason that they took it away was so it could be brought back on a fwd platform. Sad but true

This has been hashed over many times and does not belong in this forum. Consider www.nethirdgen.org or www.3rdgen.org for nontech.
