Looks like your average 1987 Iroc, but under the hood is a 383 stroker with a supercharger.

 

My car is unique because my gages have their own gages. LOL

Only one like it in the world.

 

Some of the stuff I've done has been done by others as well, some hasn't. Altogether though, it makes mine pretty unique I think.

So things I've done that others have include the shaved door handles and antenna, and installed front mounted hinges so the hood opens like a Vette's, and the true dual exhaust with glasspacks mounted sideways under the rear bumper like the stock muffler. Stock V6 T5 trans behind a 350.

As far as I know, I'm the only one that has mounted the keyless entry pad from an Explorer behind the license plate. Opens the drivers door and trunk. I just got done installing red LEDs under the cowl vent. And of course, there is the dark red metallic/black/gray paint job since I haven't gotten around to painting the car yet after replacing some body panels.

 

No one thing in general and most has probably been done before but here goes.

lunati397 do you have a build thread of your dash? I'm looking for pics of the upper mounting... Not sure mine's quite right. Did you have to mod the dash above the pass side air bag door for the spacer plate (between dash and windshield)? I've got other questions too...

1988 IROC-Z28. Original LO3 was pulled along with trans before I bought it. Has been replaced with an LHO/L82 3100 FWD hybrid with about 11.4:1 CR, about 225 HP/235 TQ. T-5 manual, 3.42 rear axle with drum brakes swapped from my 87. Moog 5658 S10 front springs, poly bushings all around, Founders' LCAs and track bar. Stainless fuel lines and hoses with 6AN fittings and external fuel pump under hump between driver's rear seat bowl and foot well, 22# TPI fuel injectors, MegaSquirt II ECU in 165-style ECM case (probably going to go to a 1227730 if this thing doesn't get properly tuned soon). Black interior with Carmine Accents (trim panel carpet, rear speaker covers, headliner), GTA/Deluxe door panels (doors swapped from manual to power everything except mirrors), overhead console, 93-96 Camaro dash and 2002 T/A console with full 93 HVAC system and dash wiring harness integrated into 3rd gen systems. Hatch, spoiler, 3rd brake light from my 87, tail lights from 85 (non-grid).

Other mods planned. Still have body work to be done and still looking for a decent set of silver Z28 emblems to replace my gold ones...

Im still driving my convertible, middle of December...on a fresh set of....Mickey T 315 Drag radials... just added a Dynomax VT muffler so it is soccer mom quiet now. All I can hear is boost and tires spinning on cold pavement.

The Vinyl Decals at the bottom was an option from the dealership that the car was bought from. So I was told when I bought the car from the original owner. I've never seen another.

Im usually all for originality but my Formula has the ugly black bumper pads on the nose and rear used on 87-90 Formulas replaced with Trans Am body kit and the horrid stock aluminum turbo style wheels or whatever they called them replaced for the GTA style wheels and to me it makes it look so much better. The power bulge hood (standard on Formulas) is a better looking hood also in my opinion. Everyones car is unique to that person and to each his own.

 

Probably the rats nest I found in my intake valley that wrapped around the pushrods like cotton candy.

 

Lots of nice rides here, I'm loving it. What makes mine unique is the theme that I chose. My car is a 1991 firebird v8, t-top upgrade with the Sport Appearance package. Unlike Chevrolet, who named thier "Sport Appearance package" the Rally Sport (and didn't offer a v8), Pontiac did not name the option, so I did.

I applied TRANS SPORT emblems to both sides, sort of a truth in advertising gesture, as many of us raid both the f body parts bins unashamedly, why not combine Trans Am and Sport (Sport Coupe, Rally Sport, Super Sport)? In addition, in the spirit of the little red firebird that served as both the prototype for the Kammbak and later the GTA, I decided to make my red 91 a ficticious prototype for a 1992 25th anniversary edition Firebird TRANS SPORT. I have to smog the car one more time before I can think of touching the drivetrain, so I have been working on appearance mostly. I have just begun the mods, buying 3 rally sport 25th dash emblems i placed one on the dash and converted the other 2 into custom door handle emblems.

I am converting the interior to red and black, using a complete trim set from a 1992 25th camaro,

2001 camaro leather seats, an 86-87 overhead console with an 84 wiring harness. I also replaced the front bird emblem with a pontiac arrowhead (also from a TRANS SPORT).

The license plate is also special because if you take the last 3 digits and flip them they spell "LEI" it's a n "F" body and I got it in "08" (Leif is the name I go by) so it's LEIF 08! (received completely by chance, or was it)?
I bought 91 -92 GTA tailights (NOT INSTALLED) that are damaged so I can slightly customize them without fear of hearing Sacrilage! I even made my own bogus certificate of authenticity for S***S and giggles.

Got a long way to go before she will compare with the others here, but we all got to start somewhere.

Didn't Pontiac come out with a mini van called the Transport in the early 90's? It was one of the first vehicles to use cab forward wasn't it? That where you got the transport name badge? IIRC, Patrick Stewart did the commercials, and it showed the van warping off towards the stars as he talked about it. You sure about this? I think mini van when I see transport on a Pontiac. But to each his own. I like some of your mods, the arrowhead on the nose is cool, and your interior looks immaculate-- I'm just not sure about the actual name. I guess if you juice things up enough, you could own it!

Yes the TRANS SPORT was originally a mini van, but it came about after the same trip to Edwards airforce base to see a blackhawk that also inspired the GTA. The original concept vehicle had a reason for the raked windshield, actual holograms on the dash like Knight rider 2000. It also had a pinched in waist, (predating the look of the gen 4's by some 20 years), a roof mounted wing and gull-wing doors. It was designed to be a Man's missile, not a mommy missile with a turbo charged v6 (like the 20th anniversary edition Trans Am) and was very well recieved by the public. ("Under the hood, the Trans Sport featured a turbocharged, non-production, all aluminum 2.9-liter V-6 engine that developed 235 hp. This engine was related to the production pushrod, GM 60-degree V-6 and was reportedly similar to the engine in the infamous red '85 Fiero GT prototype that was unofficially known as the "Corvette Killer.)"

The actual model released was such a dissappointment that they rebadged it the rugged manly sounding Montana in 1998, and now it is no more, so why not repurpose the name on a manly F Body?

 

Interestingly the Concept vehicle for the Trans Sport was actually made by Cars & Concepts, yes the same company that did aftermarket T-top conversions. C&C also did the Banshee concept in 1988... The Trans Sport concept was an attempt to appeal the van to the male with a cockpit similar to the X-wing fighter from Star Wards.

I for one would be interested in hearing about your hood mods to make it sturdy enough for this application. I considered adding a shaker but balked when I read that the 85 up trans am gta hoods have a tendency to bend just due to the addition of the louvers. There also appears to be a stabilizing beam that diagonally intersects the area of the hood you need to remove to acomodate the shaker. is the camaro hood constructed differently? Is yours steel?
