Iroc side decals

Hi all, I am getting my 1985 Iroc-Z painted the factory gunmetal gray from 1988. When I put the Iroc-Z door decals back on, should I place the decals towards the front of the door like the 85-87 style, or towards the rear of the door because it is getting painted a 1988 color? Thanks.

Re: Iroc side decals

It depends on the look you want. If you decide to place them at the rear, be sure to get the proper stripes that go for 1988-1990 cars. If you go for the front, get the 85-87 stripes. It just depends on the look you want. Your rims will either make people think that you put old rims on a new car or they might think you have a rare85 since that color wasn't available. Also, remember that there were two stripe colors available for the grey in 1988. Choose wisely as interior color may not match with the blue/black stripe unless the interior is grey or black.

Thanks man. I will probably put the stock 85-87 rims on my car and put the door decals on the front to still leave a resemblance that it is an early year Iroc. I have a grey cloth interior, so it should match. One question, would making the car gunmetal instead of the stock black paint color lower the car's resale value? It is my first car and I am going to sell it in 4 years at the end of high school. Thanks.

People in certain aspects value originality, so its pretty much just dependent upon the buyer what there personal preference is, I myself would leave it stock color. I said the same thing about my 87, 3 years later i wouldnt trade it for a brand new camaro lol

Re: Iroc side decals

It will devalue the car if the paint isn't done correctly. If you take a 1969 Z28 and didn't like the original color, and repainted the visible areas of the car to a better color, you will completely devalue it if the door jambs, trunk area, under hood, etc still show the original color. That same car being repainted by a professional, that does a complete repaint and a quality paint job, will not devalue the car.

The same holds true on your car. If you repaint the car, be sure to do the door jambs, under hood areas, rear hatch area, etc and completely remove the original color. Doing this will not be an inexpensive paint job and is probably outside the affordability of a high school student. Based on that information, you probably will devalue the car.

Re: Iroc side decals

In my paint prep, I have completely removed all trim and weatherstripping, along with the windshield and rear glass. I have removed all of the ground effects. The only thing I have not and will not remove is the engine. Any tips on painting the engine bay without removing the engine? That will be the only problem. Other than that, ALL trim has been removed.

Re: Iroc side decals

I would leave them off for awhile and see if you like the look better. If I were to put them back on...towards the front like the original.
