Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
Hi there-I need to eventually have my camaro bodywork/paint and thinking of a color like this one in the pictures. I have been looking at samples and see Graphite gray and warm gray that look similar,
But I am really looking for a factory type paint color/code WITH PEARL for this color-If anyone has a color similar on their car or a newer car with pictures, and can provide the color/code/supplier for ease of ordering i would greatly appreciate
thank-you

That's a list of GM Color codes.

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
I've experimented with pearl coats over gray, and it looked terrible. It wound up with a "cloudy" type of appearance. Perhaps if there was a darker tint to the pearl coat it may work better, but using a standard white pearl midcoat over gray doesn't work well at all.

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
Pearl was mixed into the base coat with my paintjob and it came out perfectly, not sprayed over it.
Maybe he should just do the 2 stage rather than a 3 stage.

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
After reading this I was leaning towards this technique because of the problems you are having with grey.
I have not had the chance to compare my paint with one sprayed in the manner you describe so I really have nothing to compare it to.
We used PPG Cristal Red Pear additive and it only came in a 4oz bottle costing $141.00 .He added some to a custom Rally Red paint and also in the black racing stripes.
For the OP .Here’s what part of the painting process looks like. =

how much do you need to paint an 85 camaro ? 1 qt? 1 gal? and how much clear and pearl?
Also, I have included some pics of my stock interior which I am keeping as I have limited funds and it's in good shape,
I am now worried about matching somewhat the interior colors as it is a 3 or 4 tone mix of gray and a bluish gray, etc, carpet is a bluish gray and dash and console are black
This is gonna be harder to decide than I thought, I wonder if the gunmetal gray or any other color would match the interior better than the gray in my original photos, which with a black interior does look awesome to me.
thanks again guys for your continued help

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
I had a friend paint mine and he did all of the ordering and mixing.
We ordered a little extra for a side project he was doing so my receipts really are of no help when trying to calculate the actual amount used. Sorry.
Love the high back seats. Still looking for a decent set to have recovered.

My car is Viper pearl gray metallic, looks really good in person IMHO, much better than gunmetal (The car was originally gunmetal) Has that understated muscle car mystique look

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
Thanks guys-you've got some very cool cars!
re: viper grey, it kinda looks like the gunmetal from Marine Ron above-is it similar but a little lighter? Can't tell the pearl effect from pic. Also like the pepper grey, a little more silvery, no pic from the Nissan reply. Looking back at my original OLDS color (which i can't identify yet) the Olds looks like a darker shade of the pepper metalic, and i kinda still like the olds color best, but now question what would go best with the interior, as it looks grey but bluish as well
your opions are welcome and/or if you can identify the olds color
thanks again
OH-here's a few pics of it now with the original blue color

Thanks for your pictures and also your input on the paint techniques 2 stage or 3, another interesting concern, also the cost 141 for 4 oz?

But - unless you find a Camaro in the bone yard with good black interior plastics and seats…it's pretty pricey to buy the stuff in decent shape.
Around my area, even finding a Thirdgen in the boneyard is almost impossible - and when you do, it's been picked over so badly there's nothing left.
-That being said, I did find a 'Bird in the boneyard about 6 months ago the had a great Carmine red interior still in it! But I wasn't in the market for any red interior...

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
Grey that's not metallic, basically a solid color, sort of glossy grey primer with a pearl effect to make the color pop. I've seen all of the examples on the road, each getting my attention, causing me to search for them because I thought they looked great, and I think a similar color would look great on a thirdgen.
The 1993-94 Dodge Stealth came in the creatively-named color, Grayish White Pearl.
In the 2000s, Saab had a color called Dolphin Grey(pic attached).
Also in the 2000s, the Audi TT came in a color called Nimbus Grey Pearl(pic attached).
And currently, Scion offers Cement Grey(pic attached).

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
The factory Formula wheels for the 1985-1987, and the lower GFX I believe the WA color is WA7782 and it has pearl in it. It was also the lower accent on the 87-90 Formula in White, Yellow or silver... I know it has pearl because when it I bought a pint ($100 back 10 years ago) I asked why so much and they said because it had pearl... It is a sweet color, very subtle tho.

I do not have a pic of just the wheels, so this is zoomed in... But you can see there is some depth to the paint

Re: Looking for a gray Pearl paint color
Why "must" it have pearl? Pearl with grey looks awful, as mentioned. Id look into a metallic.. if I had to choose a grey (yuck)
