I didn't know for sure where to put this, so I put it here since this is the section where the magazine communicated with users in the past. A good friend of mine for many years, Brian Wagner, who has recently began contributing articles to the magazine (and High Performance Pontiac) on a freelance basis announced on Facebook that GM High-Tech Performance's last edition will be released on August 8th. Brian forwarded this over from the editor:

"So today not only concludes my career with Source Interlink Media, but with GM High Tech Performance Magazine and Camaro Now as well. Although it's a bittersweet moment, having had the opportunity to work as Editor-In-Chief of the publication that had helped inspire me to get into the business to begin with, it's still a shame.

Also, after 19 years of being in production, GM High-Tech Performance, originally High-Tech Performance, will cease to exist. It was the only all late-model GM publication on the market, catering to everything from 1985-present, and the following was immense.

I'm proud to say I was its final Editor. Evan Smith, Jim Campisano, Johnny Hunkins, Rick Jensen, and Scott David Parker laid the foundation for me. If not for them, I wouldn't have had this opportunity to begin with.

I had the opportunity to meet some of the most inspiring people in the industry, and I'll never forget them. I'd like to consider them my friends.

For those of you who subscribed, you should be receiving your final copy on or around 8/8/14. Things were just getting good, too...

By the way, I'm not going anywhere. I'd like to consider myself a mainstay in this industry, and you'll be hearing much more from me in the very near future. As they say, when one chapter closes, another one begins. I'll be introducing you to that new chapter very soon."

I was proud of my buddy for scoring such high profile work here in F-body land and now it's already over. Sorry to hear about the full-timers losing their jobs.

Wow, this sucks. Been collecting Camaro Performers and GMHTP for over a decade....

 

Sad day. I have been a sub'er for 19 years. I feel even more lucky now to have been featured in this iconic magazine before it got shut down.

 

That is sad... was really the only good source for information regarding our cars and F-bodies in general.

 

What's going to happen to those with recently renewed and long term subscriptions?

 

They'll probably get Super Chevy magazines until their sub is up.

Wow this is sad news, like some I've been subscribing for over a decade as well. Guess I'll be getting Super Chevy for the next 2 years...

 

Send it back and request a full refund. That's what I'm going to do.

I had a very small picture of my car and a few friends several years ago. Got extra mags and had one framed, they even took a butload of pix, incase they needed a feature. that never happened tho.

 

I feel lucky to have gotten my car in what was probably the last issue of Camaro Performers Magazine. I wish the photoshoot would have been after the LS swap but either way it was cool to get my car in a magazine. The guy who did the photoshoot and article was a super nice guy too.

GM High Tech Performance contacted my tuner last week after he posted some pics of my car on his dyno on facebook. Too bad that magazine won't exist anymore...was hoping to get in that one too with the ls1.

 

The magazine racks will look empty with all those titles gone!!

 

I'll be looking for a refund for GMHTP and High Performance Pontiac as well

I never cared much for Hot Rod, I probably will not subscribe to it.

I just got a July issue of Camaro Performers. Probably the last one they printed. Next issue will be Super Chevy I think. :/

 

Wish GMHTP was still around and Cosmo was gone.....I already know what hand and face moisturizer to use after wrenching all day.

They are given to sister publications, or sold to non-sister publications with the condition the subscribers get free issues until their original subscription term ends. Magazines buy these subscribers because it gives them a chance to have people renew with their magazines when done.

Sucks to see GMHTP end. HPP is done also? I used to subscribe to HPP from late '95 until the past year, when I got fed up with their constant barrage of featured Goat clones, so call "one of one" cars that the owners insisted are legit, constant barrage of 4th gens and ignoring of virtually all third gens, with the excuse that they "don't find worthy 3rd gens at shows and that is the reason they rarely are featured".



With the death of Pontiac, don't expect another Pontiac-dedicated magazine to replace it.

 

Fat chance. Read my post above. They all but snubbed 3rd gens. You would have had better chance of getting your stock 4th gen in there than a modded 3rd gen.

 

Just got the latest issue of GMHTP. Editor didn't say squat about it ceasing to publish? IMO all it really is an LS based mag anyway. They have very little variety outside of LS based platforms.

 

1. If they stayed in publication longer all the people screaming that it's only an LS mag would have seen them writing less and less about the bane of your existence. Although that would be because of the newer LT1 and gen5 motors.

2. They've had a sizable chunk of nonLS stuff for quite awhile now. Just because it's not up to your standards doesn't mean they're not doing it. I'm still flabbergasted by that complaint though. I really don't understand how the TITLE OF THE MAGAZINE is misleading you guys to think that they would prominently feature 30 year old technology. I really think I'm beating a dead horse when I say, it was GM High-Tech Performance. What did you really expect?

 

Well, I was very, very late to this game. Having just bought my 3rd Gen. a few months back, I just started looking for mags that might have something of interest for me. I only have two issues, and both are VERY LS heavy. Nice to know, but not what I was looking for.

And I too, was surprised by the lack of comment on the magazines demise. Quite to the contrary, on page 8 of the July issue, under the heading "GMHTP Gone Digital", they claimed...

"Truth is, we still have hundreds of thousands of readers every month waiting by their mailbox, eagerly, for the latest editions of their favorite all late-model GM publication, and we have zero plans to change that anytime soon."

 

Figures not enough money for the greedy bastards...and they took the liberty of not giving you your money back and stuffing a chevy magazine down your throat...nice a_ _ holes

 

First of all pretty sure I didn't say anything about what "my standards are" but since you felt it necessary to comment I guess I will as well. I had a detailed conversation with Rick Seitz a few months ago where he damn near admitted there was to much LS based coverage in the mag. It was my opinion not a complaint. Just as your comments are your opinion. In this case instead of offending people perhaps you could keep yours to yourself.

i enjoyed the 2003 articles on blue thunder and the coverage on slps raceway park customer appreciation day. I'm sure it didn't help that this magazine could never be found on any local news stand. This is unfortunate news

 

Car mag section at the supermarket looks a little empty now. Looks like the diesel and other truck mags are doing OK. I wonder if the overall decline in automotive knowledge but the public leads to magazines full of bolt-ons and accessories doing better than ones with engine builds and suspension tuning.

You think that they'd try and contact their subscribers and let them know ahead of time so you could choose what you want to do. I won't be subscribing to any Source Interlink Media product if this is how they handle their customers.

 

I just got a 5.0 magazine that says "Collector's Edition Last Issue" in the upper right of the cover, so I'm assuming it's the last one. I get those every once in a while since our Chump Car is a Fox (hoping to get it done soon!). I thought that maybe that mag would stick around due to the strong spending habits of Mustang owners. I guess not. Much like GMHTP, near the end 5.0 was dominated by turbo articles. Turbos are pretty sweet obviously, but they are a major investment and somewhat of a niche item. Did these mags take the short money by doubling down on turbo to get turbo manufacturers to advertise or did the mags simply die due to the fact that people really spend a lot of time indoors now? Seems like young people care a lot more about Pokemon, gaming and comic books than they do cars and wrenches.

 

They never said at HPP site about it folding, that I saw. Must be confirmed - attempts to subscribe go to Hot ROD subscription. Nothing in the forums or blogs about it ending.

Sad to see dedicated magazines fail. Didn't help when GM killed Pontiac.
I think GM been leaving a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths the past few years. Good thing Louis Chevrolet isn't around to see what those bean counters did to the company. GM's dying a slow death.

It'll be really interesting in 10-20 years, when the essential Buick and Caddy buyers aren't around to keep GM afloat and the young guys can't afford the $50-55k Camaros [edit, 2015 Z28 base price listed at 72k - they sure priced the young buyers out of the model, didn't they? ] and $70,000 Corvettes.

 

I don't know about that. Globally, GM sold more cars last quarter (bad recall news and all) than at any other time since 1980. That's their best quarter in 34 years, and done without Olds, Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn.

They seem to have a very popular product mix that is selling very well. I don't think that bodes poorly for the future.

I encouraged him to spend a few hours roaming these boards. I said anything he could think of doing to a thirdgen is on here somewhere.
