At what point do "Resto Mods" go too far?
In the process of closing down my old computer, I am deleting a lot of material. Here are some of what I am clearing out. Some I've shared before others are new. I've been collecting pictures from the web for a while on unusual 3rd Gen modifications. Some times its just the wheels and others its;
Stunning, the orange interior is certainly unique.

Agreed. I usually think the line lies when the restomod no longer stays true to the original style or concept. Putting engines from other manufacturers in, unfitting wheels, changing the body lines, crazy paint/ interiors, etc. These are, um, interesting, but definitely don't come close to qualifying.

These next three are different cars even though 2 are the same color. They are here mainly for the Donk wheels. This style must be popular.

I don't mind some of the new rims and smaller tire set ups but these over sized ones are beyond me.

These examples make my heart cry out for my oh so recently deceased all original 1992 Camaro Z28. Good examples are getting rarer

^if it makes you feel any better most of those cars probably don't have those wheels on them any more. A lot of times people rent those wheels by the week until they're paid off. Don't pay the bill, back to the Rent 'N Roll they go... or the people's credit gets ruined.

Maybe that explains the car I saw with all four wheels removed on the shoulder of the Hwy. It must have been the repo man!

Your right it most certainly is not new. You should have seen some of the psychedelic painted VW's back in the late 60's and early 70's. I wish I had pictures.
You should see what they are doing to the late 70's 80's Monte Carlo's and Cutlass's. I was toying with the idea of buying one for a winter car. Almost every one I saw that was not junk had the big wheels and expressive paint jobs.

Re: At what point do "Resto Mods" go too far?
To each their own, but all of those are just terrible. To me a resto mod is taking a classic car and putting modern running gear on it so it performs like a 2015 car and not a 1969. Also when you take a performance vehicle and jack it up higher then a pickup by putting on 24" rims I think you should be beat with a rubber hose lol!

With colorful designs like this, you hope its just a wrap and not a paint job. But hey, if its your dream car only you have to live with it.

I must admit, this is the first "Chopped" 3rd Gen I've ever seen. Saw it this weekend on CL.
