Yesterday I was driving back from an early morning errand when some unspeakable **** in a who gives a **** Toyota tried to make a right across my lane into a parking lot. I tried my best, but there was just no room. My front left fender impacted his passenger side door and we both slid hard into his intended parking lot. I don't have much to say about it right now, but I had to tell my people.


I like to think I'm a tough guy, but I'm on the verge of tears right now. That car was an immaculate daily driver, and I worked painstakingly to keep it that way. It was my first car and my pride and joy. It survived 23 years, was entrusted to my care, and after all of the hard work and caution and responsibility I have taken to maintain it, all of the history and beauty and work and time is snuffed out in a second by some half wit who couldn't be bothered to check over his shoulder and who couldn't possibly grasp the gravity of what he had done. I keep my emotions in check and handle things very level headedly usually, but I guess I am a sentimental guy because I am just broken right now. I know it's over a car but it just means so much more to me than four wheels and transportation.


I'm venting, writing my thoughts out. I didn't know the right forum, move it if need be mods. This really sucks guys. This really really sucks.

 

damn man, sorry to hear about that ... i am sure that most of us on here feel the same way about our rides and can feel your pain and heartache

 

That does suck. When you put a lot of time in, the car feels like a family member. Not be the bearer of bad news, but be prepared for another shock when the insurance offer doesn't match your sentiments.

That being said, cars can be fixed, no matter how bad they are - people not so easily. Be glad nobody is hurt.

Get your head back in the game here and be sure to protect the car and your interests. If it was towed, make sure it was taken to a shop or property you know & can control. If need be have it towed to your house or if you have a relationship with a shop where it will be secure - there. Do not leave it in some towing company holding lot or police yard - you will not be happy with the way it looks or is cared for when you see it again. Start getting estimates as quickly as you can, make sure the shop(s) you are working with understand your history & attachment and will be capable of bringing it back.

If it's your only means of transportation I have a friend out in Bixby who could hook you up with something cheap to drive as long as you don't care what it is. He would also likely have several donor cars you could buy parts off of if you wanted.

Get on it, make sure the police have found the other party at-fault and start your claim.

I feel your pain. 3 years ago my 92 Teal Camaro took not one but two hits by idiot drivers. Like you, I had taken great care to keep my car up. I was preparing to paint it when all this happened. I fixed the 1st accidents dents when from across an open parking lot, a man on a cellphone drove into my car. He never looked up once. I could not avoid him as I was at the exit, behind a PU and in front of another car. I was heart broken. Started to repair the new damage when hidden accident related tranny damage and engine trouble took the wind out of my sails. I sold it and bought a Firebird which I love, but I think of my old car often.

 

Well said. I completely understand how attached you can get to a car, and I can only imagine how bad you must feel. However, in these situations it's important to keep level headed and deal with **** so you don't get screwed even harder.
It doesn't sound like it was that big of an impact, these cars are pretty tough, so I think there's a good chance it's fixable.

 

Man, sorry to hear that. This forum has seen a lot of wrecks though, and a lot of saves from said wrecks. I hope it can be fixed, if not now then eventually. I also hope your insurance company will fight FOR you and not AGAINST you.
