this should be a fun contest. they're stock. they're pristine. and there is a little something for everybody: an '84, a GTA, a Formula, a couple of IROCS, and even a B4C.
G ON THE CAR YOU LIKE BEST, AND MOST OF LIST OF RULES BELOW PERTAIN PRIMARILY TO THE NOMINEES, BUT PLEASE HELP PROTECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE Thirdgen.org CAR OF THE MONTH PROGRAM BY READING AND UNDERSTANDING THE COTM VOTING RULES BEFORE PROCEEDING.
This thread is a Car of the Month **Voting Thread**. To participate in the voting, simply click on your choice in the attached poll. Please observe the following list of rules if you are going to participate. Remember, we must protect the integrity of the contest so that the most deserving Members win.
If you are nominated, you CAN vote for your own car.
If you are nominated, do not ask people to register as TGO Members for the sole purpose of voting for your car.
Do not use multiple member accounts to vote for any car (including your own) more than once or to vote for more than one car.
Do not use photo -edited images to represent your car.
If you are a nominee, please DO post abundant photos (exterior, interior, engine) and technical & historical data. When threads are started on other websites advising members there to come to TGO to vote for a mutual member of both sites, it is usually NOT good for the integrity of the TGO COTM program.
Here is a quick run down on my Formula. I bought the car back in September of 2012 as a toy car to have fun with on the weekends, and fix up gradually. I never really intended on taking the car this far as a project, but a year or so after purchasing it I decided to go all in. Just about everything on the car has been redone or freshened up since I had purchased it. Paint work, spoiler, glass, wheels, tires, brakes, exhaust, suspension, brand new interior, finished the underbody, a lot of mechanical too. The car spent the most of 2013 all shelled out in my garage and by fall it was back on the road. I did all the work my self with a very understanding wife. She is awesome.. My goal was to restore the car to the best of my ability while keeping as much of it in stock form as possible.
This 1989 Firebird Formula is factory equipped with a Tuned Port injected 305 (L98 Cam and 081 heads), 5 speed manual, Borg warner 3.45 posi rear, and N10 dual cat exhaust (sounds amazing). The car is blast to drive, and really surprises me from time to time. I was very lucky to stumble on a factory car in this configuration. There are not very many left from what I can tell. Enjoy the pics, and Thanks for voting!
Thanks Erik for the nomination and all those who seconded it. All beautiful cars here. I've even nominated a couple of them in the past. Good luck to all.
Briefly, I'm the original owner and ordered it new. It's a G92 hardtop, L98 cammed LB9 with a 5 speed, N10 dual cats, 3.45 9 bolt and DX3 decal delete. I remember the car was built and held from shipping out of Van Nuys by the EPA for several weeks due to a certification issue with the N10s.There was one guy at the plant I kept calling every 48-72 hours until the car was released. I betcha he was glad when the car drove onto the transporter.
It currently has about 11K miles.
Here are some pics I had knocking around.

Below are original factory gray tire valve caps. You'd think someone would have reproduced these darned things by now:
I voted for Charlie's 11,000 mile '89 IROC. It's a beautiful car and I can appreciate the discipline it takes to keep the miles low and the car original. Good luck to all!
Ok, here's a few of mine. For those that don't know, it's a fully loaded '87 which means it's a first year 350, first year leather and first year Bose optioned car. It stickered for over $21k in 1987.
Awards won are multiple Platinum awards from car shows, 996 out of 1000 point judged to receive the platinum awards, 1st Place at the inaugural NPD parts OktoberFest car show, featured in books, magazines and a GM officially licensed Tshirt.

Mine is a 22K mile 1988 GTA with factory 5 speed. one of 809 GTAs built with a 5 speed for 1988. It is garage kept and has had the factory speakers replaced as well as headliner. I bought it from the third owner who purchased it in 1990. yet it changed hands the first two years. It is well documented and will run with (not beat) the 5.7s due to the mods that the factory added to the 5-speeds to make them more desirable. It has higher gears in the rear (3.45 compared to 3.27) and a non-peanut cam for more HP. It also has 220 HP compared to the normal 305 TPI that had 195HP and had 10 less than the GTA 5.7 at 230HP.)
The wheels are GTA wheels with plastidip and glossifier to make them black and somewhat glossy. The exhaust tips are similar to those on the TTA and are NOS from 1980s. On the windshield is a state trooper inspection sticker from 1988 (its first year!) so I kept it on. it has slightly tinted windows to remain stock in appearance.
It has only been to three shows so far and has placed in 2 out of three. One was a special mention award and the other was a top 20 in a large show. Going to be at the TA nats in Dayton next month.

1) This car has NEVER been driven in the rain, even once since new and has been stored in a humidity controlled garage, or:
2) You removed the exhaust manifolds and had them coated in some type of special high temp paint that stays clear without turning yellow.
If it's #2, please share name of product.
Thanks!
Niether!
Calyx.
A girl I met, who used to trailer her perfectly detailed, low miles '86 Sport Coupe to cruise nights, turned me on to this stuff over 20 years ago. It's waxy and you apply it with a rag or toothbrush. When you start it up to let it cure, it will STINK.
BTW, I got caught in a severe thunderstorm the day I picked it up from the dealer.
That reminds me, need to order some more, the stuff in my original jar is dried out.

so did it have any rush when you put it on and it burned off? and does this work on other exhaust parts? (welds etc)

I've tried it on all sorts of things. Like bolts, etc. But it really needs the heat of an exhaust manifold to cure properly.
You won't get a rush, but if you cure it inside a small garage the stink will gag you. Either drive the car outside or leave the car inside, and you go outside for a few minutes.
Please permit me to pose a question in here since you guys keep your stock 3rd Gen's above par...
Where can I find the strip of rubber that goes around the top of the rear taillights? Is it included in a master weatherstrip kit?
After I had my car painted a year ago, I got it back with the Right Rear one missing and most of the weatherstrip taken off. So now I'm looking for nothing but the best, cost no object.

You believe these new prices? $55k for a ZL1, $72k for a Z28?
An inflation calculator will show that $21k in 1987 is equal to $44k today. So, a fully optioned Camaro back then is equal to the average Camaro SS today. To put that into perspective, if you could buy a brand new Buick Grand National today, it should sticker for $36,500.
I bought a base 1983 Z28 in 1985 for $7800 with 19k miles on it. So a two year old base SS today should cost $17k.
Close race? Did you see how far down the ranks I am? Just give this month to Charlie. It's going that way now anyway!!
It ain't over till it's over. A couple yrs ago, my MSE was in the lead by 15 or 20 votes. The very last day of voting, Copchaser came from behind and beat me by 1 vote. So Scott, anything can happen and there is still a few days of voting left.
You know what? It'd be cool if my car was selected for COTM, but with the awards I've already won with this car, it's also cool to see other people get the same recognition. Good luck to everyone.
Of course I voted for my own car, but why wouldn't I?

In any other poll, I could easily vote for these in order:
scottmoyer
I'llrocya
Chazman
IMissMy86TA
But I had to go with the obvious choice.
Scott, get your appeal ready - declare the results void due to the misspelling of your user name below your picture.
I've hereby been
from all future polls.

Aren't these polls just for fun to an extent? I truly like all of these cars, a whole lot. I'm a big fan of Camaros and Firebirds so I don't have a favorite. I like them all for different reasons besides the obvious ones, I'd be proud to say I own any of them, I wish I could. They're all outstanding because all of you take such great care of them, the fact we're all here is a testament to that. There are no losers here in my book.
They're supposed to be fun, but you can also attain certain amounts of bragging rights if you want to say that your car has made COTM. I remember some people that were disappointed that their car never made the nomination and was trying hard to get there.
If COTM is something that others wish to obtain, then I will gladly remove myself from the poll to allow someone else those votes. Like I said, it's great to be nominated, and it's fun to watch the poll grow (slowly for some of us ), but I will easily allow others the opportunity for recognition because there are so many nice cars on these forums and others deserve the recognition.
Does anybody think my being humble will help in the polls?
I'll tell you what these COTMs do for me.... It allows me to take a closer look at cars I'm not familiar with. Every month, I discover a member's primo car, which I have either not seen before or not spent the time to look at closely enough.
It'd be nice if we could all get together some time and park these cars in a row. Maybe next year's, ThirdGen Expo?
Anyway, why aren't more people voting for Kurt's B4C? His car is awesome and is one I've nominated for COTM in the past.
I wondered that also.
As I mentioned a few months back, I think the COTM Voting thread gets lost. I think if it could remain at the top of the new posts list, it would get more attention. That way it's always in sight. With the amount of active members on here, the votes should be in the hundreds

I agree with you. There are SO MANY pristine cars (stock or modified) that do not get the recognition they deserve. Is it because they don't post often? Or is it because they dont have a "Group" of friends that will put them up in the ranks.
There were MANY cars that I saw (in pics) from the 2015 ThirdGen Expo, that were EASY nominees/winners for COTM. Why are they not here?? They dont have the posts or the group that will push the car there.
I am not taking away from the cars that are here. But, (no offense) it seems like it is the same members that we see often on the boards.
And Scott....You have EVERY RIGHT being in the voting. Just look at the car.

I also think that some of these cars need to be "discovered". If someone doesn't post any pics of their car, it's hard to do that.
The lady who I mentioned earlier, who clued me in to that Calyx product when I saw her exhaust manifolds over 20 years ago, has/had a magnificent car. Like I said, she used to bring it to shows and cruise nights in an enclosed trailer. It was an '86 or '87 SC, with an LG4, 5 speed and about 7-ish K miles on it. I wish I knew the whereabouts of that car now. I'd definitely nominate it!
I voted for Charlie's 11,000 mile '89 IROC. It's a beautiful car and I can appreciate the discipline it takes to keep the miles low and the car original. Good luck to all!
