My new gfx....

I heard from some people that I have to make body alterations to make the RS ground effects fit on my SC... is this true? If so, what do I have to change? Also, I am taking the RS stickers off the gfx... should I just leave it blank, or hunt down some SC stickers?

you gotta replace the rear bumper, drill the holes for the gfx, i believe you have to weld a metal guide for the rocker gfx, and you have to replace the whole front end

Depends babe on how much work ya wanna do. But you will have to replace the front clip and rear bumper. Ick. Plus there is all that hole drilling. But if you get someone else to do it, could cost more than it should. Do it yourself and just go to a junkyard and buy a new clip and rear end.

Sounds like fun... about how long does all this take? When I got the gfx from a junkyard (im a girl, i used she-power to get them for $50!!) it came with the bumper, but not a front clip.. don't laugh, but what exactly is that? and how much does it cost? Oh, and what do you guys think about the "RS" stickers? Ditch em or find SC?

I think by front clip they mean front bumper cover. You'll have to change it to one with gfx, because the SC nose is different. I'm not sure exactly how much one of these would cost. I wouldnt pay more than $200 for one in good shape. About the RS stickers, yeah i'd leave them in if I had them, because SC's didnt have gfx and there wont be any stickers. You could always just leave them out but that would look kinda plain.

$375 for putting them on and paint sounds pretty good to me. I'm not sure what the teal RS stickers would look like on a black car, it might not look bad. You could maybe wait until they paint them then stick them on there just to get an idea of how they look like. Is the whole sticker teal, or is it just the outline? If its just the outline, you could maybe try paint them yourself and see what that looks like.

Hey CamaroChick.... I was in the same position as u about 6 months ago... Had an 85 SC and wanted the ground effects... Its really not as hard as people claim it to be.... The rear bumper will go on with no problem at all... The front goes on, but where the front gfx wraps around the fender, u have to drill one little hole on each side... Its easy... The rockers are the hardest part.. From the factory, the mounting brackets came spot welded, but to put mine on i just used 4 bolts with locking nuts and they are as secure as welds.. Just make sure u drill into steel... When u line the bracket up, measure it from each end.. Once its dead center, drill or weld it up... Than u have to drill 2 holes where the RS emblem goes and just use self tapping screws.... For the door, u need to drill 3 holes and use bolts with locking nuts... The rear quarters are just 2 bolts with locking nuts and than one little bolt that attaches the quarters to the rear bumper.... Start with the front and rears first.... When u have them done, go with the quarters.. Than u have the hardest last, by this time u should get the hang of it, and the rockers will be easy... Just dont tell yerself its hard to do.. U can do it.. I kept thinkin i had to get someone to do it for me, but once i was done, i was like "that was easy".. It took me about a day...

There is a way to make your own CAMARO rocker panel emblem.Take the part that says RS and use a knife to seperate it from the plastic part its attached to,then buy a rear bumper emblem for a 88 SC Camaro.Cut the bowtie off of it and trim the CAMARO part until it fits into the plastic piece you took off of the RS emblem. It shoul take only five min to do all of this and you get a new rocker panel emblem without searching for a good set in the j/y.Too bad they discontinued the rocker panel emblem a few years back then all of this would have been unnessicary.I recomend repainting the plastic piece black before you put the CAMARO emblem in first.

Take the emblems off and have them fill in the recess when they paint it. Clean look.

I'm going to agree with Jza. Just fill the recesses with bondo and have 'em painted over. If I had the painting of my car to do over again, that's what I would do.

You think so? I might just do that.... i just dont want it looking rather, shall i say, bald.... it might look clean actually... i mean i have grey interior... teal just wont do it... the whole 3 color thing gives the dreaded rice appearance dont noone want that on a chevy!!!

It isn't all that difficult. I did it to my Camaro back in '89, and everything is still attached Be sure to measure carefully. Use masking tape on the body and mark an X where you want to drill. The tape will help keep the surrounding paint from chipping, and gives you a better target. Put some touch up paint in the hole before removing the tape to protect the bare metal. Use body dope to create a watertight seal around the studs. The hardest part is welding on the rocker bracket. Don't skimp and try to bolt it on, you'll be real sorry in the end. All in all a weekend job excluding painting and welding.
