I wanted to share with you guys a custom show board I had made to help display my 1991 Z28 (badnblk) specifications, and modifications.

I had Jonas at 2fastjones contact me about a rendering he did using my car as the subject, and after a little bit of talking I found that he could make custom show boards, and I gotta say I'm blown away. If you have been around long enough here, you'll know this isn't my first show board I have had made, but this one is the best. He made a couple poster/prints for the car during the effort as well that I thought were really cool.

Thanks guys! I got it at the print shop now. I'm excited to get it in it's frame and see how nice it looks next to the car.

 

That's pretty nice! I really like it! ....what size is the final piece going to be, and how and where are you going to display it? As a graphic artist/sign guy, I make similar things, but I'm always unsure how to display it without "overdoing" it.

 

Its going in a matte black frame 32 tall, and 22 wide and I have a collapsible stand I put it on.

I had my first one made for when I was at shows, and then I hung it in the garage. This one I had made because the Optima Ultimate Street Car series racing events have a Design & Engineering portion where the car is judged by a panel of industry peers, and you only have 60 seconds to tell them about the car and the modifications, but a show board telling all the details you could have skipped over in your short discussion is displayed the entire time during the judging, giving a possible advantage? The hopes that the judges will know with only a quick inspection will be able to notice all the details of a car that they don't normally see done to this level would be really tough.

 

Chris, that's something that needs to be considered. A show board needs to be concise and detail the major points. Too much detail and people will just walk away. Not enough detail and you think, "What's the point?" The board above looks good, but IMO it has way too much information. People might start reading it, but then move on since they are, where they are, to see cars.

 

Well the purpose of my board is exactly what it is, to put ALL the modifications and details out there. I used this board for design and engineering competition where I had 2 minutes to explains ALL the modifications/details of my car to the panel of judges, then cannot talk anymore. They are free to examine my car before and after my 2 minutes. When I have this board they were able to look it over before I spoke, and after to see the amount of work that went into making my car what it is. I was complimented by the production company of the series for the use of the board as a great idea.

I have only used a show board one time in the past and you said the same thing about that one too... "too much details", and I think you are wrong. I've had people sit there and study the board then start a conversation, or look at the board and come back to talk about something they never would have been able to see doing a visual inspection. I might just be the difference in have a completely modified vehicle, where everything has been changed vs showroom floor stock. I would agree that a show board listing how stock the car is would be a snoozer, as a vehicle like yours need nothing more than year make model and basic specs, and maybe build numbers if its special like that.

 

Amount of information certainly depends on who you're targeting. This one is certainly targeted more at the more-well informed crowd who would eat that sort of thing up. Your average passerby who might be more well tailored to with a more sparse board, but probably wouldn't be interested in discussing the sorts of details on the current board anyway. Of course I'm not too familiar with the sorts of car shows which are actually competitions with prizes though, so take my opinion from that perspective.

The board looks great though. Definitely a wise choice to get it professionally done up, should compliment the car nicely .

 

If it serves your purposes, then that's good. It is nicely done.

But for the most part, I'm with Scott on this one. I'm fully able to comprehend and intelligently discuss any level of modification, but I'd still walk by that board. I might study the hell out of the car, and come talk to you about it, but I wouldn't stand there and read all that.
