Looks amazing! Man those wheels look great on the 90s Z28s!
It never seems like it would be worth the time, but a polish to remove imperfections followed by a finishing polish followed by a high gloss sealant is always worth it..

I was going to wait until winter and wet sand then polish it back out but when it was accepted in the Hotwheels show I had to go ahead and polish. The paint is all original so I was on the fence about it. It came out so good the I dont think I will do that now plus I think if I take out all of the factory orange peal it will look less original.

I wouldn’t take it down anymore at this point.. if it’s not a daily driver you can keep that shine with super fine polish and sealants unless you want to film the car or something..
i know a guy who paint corrected a low mile original Grand National and filmed the whole car.. looks unbelievable and will never chip or scratch.. scratches come out with a heat gun and will never get swirl marks.. same guy did my convertible deck film and cost $300 just to do one panel.. the new film they have is awesome though..
These are the 3 best. You do need a real good installer with a proper shop to make this look like it should. I have not used any of these personally but I have heard that the Lumar stuff is real good.

I went to these guys.. you have to go way to the bottom of the page under the clear bra section..
they use XPEL urethane film that has some kind of self healing clear coat so it looks like a clear coat.. I’ve seen a few cars with it and it looks like the car has a flawless clear coat on it.. does not look like film..
They did the rear deck of my convertible that had the factory cut out film.. He said he could copy that pattern but for the same price he could film the whole panel and I wouldn’t even know it’s there..

Did they give you an idea of how long this is supposed to last? I have seen this done on a couple of higher end cars and it does look amazing. Just wondering if it holds up in the real world.

It has a 10 year warranty, but the guy said if it’s garaged and not a daily driver no reason it couldn’t last 20+ years
I would ask how removal works if it starts to yellow, peel, etc..
he said it is far superior to those yellow clear bras from 5-10 years ago..
I looked into ceramic but it still has similar maintenance if you’re already pretty **** about keeping they car clean and sealing the paint a couple times/year..
I think the film is superior to ceramic IMO
I can get the same performance out of Polymer Sealant as ceramic with about the same amount maintenance

I agree.. But people wanting to go ceramic because they think it’s going to be less work to keep clean are going to pay a lot for something that has to be pretty equally maintained.. Might be worth considering film instead
I probably wouldn’t film a car unless it was a garage queen low mile original paint car that you’re scared to death about picking up scratches and chips with.. a car that never gets wet or overly exposed to elements doesn’t need anything crazy..
I talked to a guy who has had his paint corrected a bunch of times and now was told there’s not enough clear coat to do it again.. weird thing is my Tahoe with 130k Miles looks just as good as his showcar and has never been garaged.. I just do a swirl remover and finishing polish barely touching the clear coat and polymer sealant spring and fall. Drives all winter and no rust anywhere..
The new film is pretty impressive and much better than it used to be.. It’s worth talking to a shop about. I don’t mind my current regime. A couple good polishes and a polymer sealant is good for 6-months if you’re a good hand washer..
My IROC never gets wet, so I have a dusting off and polymer spray system with two different types of micro fibers.. I’ve dusted it over 100 times and not one micro scratch anywhere.. I’ll refresh the sealant in the fall..
Watching water fly off the film is impressive too.. I would maybe film a daily driver that you want to keep mint with no swirls.. would be great on black cars..

Sorry to get off topic.. back to how awesome the car looks.. seriously crushing the Hot Wheels Show.. would love to see more of the car, the show, etc..

Lol 88 we have the exact same truck. Shame they didn’t put the Escalade 6.2 in each and every one. Was an option for one year only in ‘09. The engine bay has room for luggage with the 5.3.

Its strange.. they even had it as an option for the Denali 15-19.. 5.3 is a fine motor. I like the Tahoe better than the Yukon or Escaalade. They’ll probably option the 6.2 someday..

Yeah it’s not a big deal at the end of the day. You don’t drive a 5500lb SUV to break land speed records lol. More to haul people and bash through unplowed roads. Plus the ground clearance on this generation is way way better than the new gen. You couldn’t jump curb one in the new tahoe. Better looking still too imo:
