You just put it back together. The parts you have out of it, hold that other still.

I just did mine this weekend also.

Once its back together all will be fine. Mine is like a new steering column now!!

I did have to buy the tool to get it back together though.

Thanks, it sounds like a really good plan....next part I didn't mention. This new project I am engaging, is an 89 GTA that came partially assembled(including many missing parts) It has the radio components in the steering wheel which have been mutilated and the stereo is gone. If I go with a custom steering wheel how do I get the horn button to work?(all the wires and not sure which controls the horn).

here is the schematic for the horns out of the 88 manual. Should be the same in your car.

Thanks, but still a major glitch. It looks like all the pieces are there but when I put the spring retainer onto the shaft I am 1/4" away from the steering lock plate. I have no idea what thickness the plastic piece was that goes on first is and maybe that is why it was apart when I bought it. Is there a rebuild kit a person can buy? The 4 inverted torx weren't really loose but I snugged them up anyway after tearing it down that far.

Have to ask but as I said this was apart when I bought it. I tightened the steering wheel until it bottomed out on the shaft and there is still over 1/2" between the bottom of the steering wheel and the housing......Is there a piece missing I am unaware of?

Use red loctite.. Its easy now,, You don't want to do that again in a couple of years.

Not sure. I started with my original one.

You did say something about radio controls and you not having them. Maybe the wheels are different?

I really don't know.
