very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
been looking for a light, breathable car cover not designed to protect from the elements, just to keep dust off the car. want it to breath, don't like the idea of humidity getting trapped under it. any recommendations, don't seem to find anything in this category??
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
Not sure of the brand but I use to have one from autozone that was a single layer breathable car cover. At the time I think it was the only one they had long enough for the firebird. It worked well except you had to take the antenna off as I found putting a hole in it for the antenna and lining it up was annoying as it was a daily driver then I will often leave the t-tops off and throw a old bed sheet over the top to keep the dust out so the inside can breathe as my car now lives in my workshop behind the house.
Covercraft have indoor light covers but to me it isn't worth the $250 they ask for it, but if the best is what you want...
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
I've seen alot of stuff on-line, I forgot to mention one of my concerns what the material they use. some plastic type of material. was hoping for soft cloth. I hear ya on the Covercraft - and they still seem to use that same plastic material.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
Yup, that’s the one... Not cheap but it does exactly what I want and won’t hurt the paint...
The IROC is actually flame red and the Vette is Ruby Red... Both were just good, low mile cars that just happened to come along at the right time and sort of match... ha ha... They look more red in the sun..
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
BTW - which color is best? I'm thinking black may tell you its time to wash easier. Can you throw these in the washing machine pretty easy? (at least when the wife isn't looking)
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
I’d say black will show more dust and debris... They don’t really seem to get too dirty.. The jersey material is pretty silky and you could probably just dust them off... I don’t think I’d ever have to wash them.. Nothing really seems to stick to them..

LiquidBlue: Not sure if you pulled the trigger yet, but my recommendation is a company out of California and on Ebay under the name of xtremecoverproplatinum. I've used their covers for years and they are bar none, the best cover I've used. Just be sure to get the Platinum Series as it has the soft material (fleece) that makes contact with the car. Sadly, they do not offer a discount for multiple purchases (I actually just bought another three today.) but they are priced at only $80 and as I say they far outperform many far more expensive covers I've used over the years. Just my two cents.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
$80 is a much better price if they’re comparable.. make sure it has a storage bag too... That was also what I wanted to be able to store the bag when not in use and not have it get dirty..

In life, you usually get what you pay for. But I'm willing to take a look!

My dad had a very similar Corvette which is now my brothers. I don't think it has a removable top though. Same color however. The interior is tan and I like the design and feel of the car

I think I found them. I went on eBay and just typed in "car cover platinum" and then under brand I clicked "ExtremeCoverPro" and found what hes describing in the same price ballpark. I might have to buy one of these.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
Liquid Blue and fellow car cover searchers.....the Ebay auction # is 281077174827 and those are the one for our cars. You'll see it says "Platinum Series" on the box....be sure to get that one as they do offer a cheaper version without the fleece lining. I have used them for years, and still use them, on some of my fourth generation cars. I've only used these covers indoors so I can't comment on how they hold up outside in the elements. Yes, they include a storage bag, at least in the past they did. I just ordered three more and will update when I receive them end of the week if that is no longer true. As I say, I like them better than some of the more expensive covers I've used over the years. In fact, I spent over two hundred dollars for one of my second gen cars and the cover literally fell apart in 18 months and that was, as all my cars are, on a car stored inside a garage....not very happy on that one. I've had great luck with these covers and hope you all do too if you make the decision to purchase one.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
Tibo: Followed your link and yep, that is the same cover that I use....they call it out as a Camaro cover and it is actually $5.00 less per cover....guess they figure Camaro owners don't have as much money.....I kid, I kid my Camaro brothers and sisters. Actually, looks like they stuck it to me for $15 because I bought three through their Firebird listing and since they are "universal" we all know if it fits a Camaro, it'll fit a Firebird....kinda feelin' like a fool now recommending them when they play those games, but doesn't change my opinion about them, I still like the covers just next time I need some, I'll go slumming (I kid, I kid) and search for a Camaro cover.
Thanks for posting but that still makes them almost 2x the price as the eBay one. Granted it's possible that the eBay one may be really cheap and tear after a short time With the glowing review by TooManyBirds I'm inclined to give it a try. I only have a bottom of the barrel Budge cover right now and they don't last long term indoors.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
My budge cover is like a stretchy athletic jersey material with micro fleece type lining.. Seems super durable, soft and stretchy to me... definitely not an outdoor cover as it would soak up water.. It was pricey though.. With the sale they’d be $60 off what I paid.. Be sure to post up when you get a cover.. I personally don’t think a decent car cover should be over $100 for an indoor cover..
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
thanks for the heads up. I just tried putting the budge into the cart with that discount, but it seems as tho its the same price as it was a few days ago, about $150. maybe the discount ran out?

OK, just answered my own question, the budge dimensions are approx 19' x 5' x 4.25 ' which give a total areas of 300 sq ft which is 28 sq meters. The ebay is 180g per sq meter which is 5040g which is 11 pounds. The budge weights 6 pounds.

I see what they did.. The original price is $246... ($147 is discount and shipping is free) They must always be on “discount” because mine was around $150.

Yeah - I think that is what they did, just bump up price and then have a sale. I decided to order one because it is about half the weight of the Ebay one, which was important to me. I think the Ebay one can be used outdoors as well, which would explain the heavier weight.

If the eBay one is heavier I would think it would last longer and offer more protection because it had more or at least thicker material. Why did you go with the lighter option?

for indoor use only, and want to be able to throw in washer. should be about half the weight/material to deal with. also concerned the Ebay one may not breath as well since it seems to be water proof. That is also important for my situation.

If it's indoor why does it need to be breathable? Your in Austin TX so I would think it would have uber low humidity rates like I see in Arizona. Do you see higher humidity or have humidity coming up through the concrete (I know back in Illinois that happened in my garage). I'm really curious because I'll most likely have mine under a cover in a garage for most of next year.
Re: very light, breathable car cover for garage use only - recommendations
garage is not very well sealed, and we get plenty of humidity here. enough that I bought a huge dehumidifer for the garage that runs on autopilot to keep it below 50% lately its been real low, but its not always that way.
