I have searched this forum all over using keywords and such, but to no avail on a good thread about car covers. Searched many websites and they just seem like a general cover that fits a ton of other models. Looking for something made for my '91 Z28. What is your favorite? Looking for indoor/outdoor usage.
I call it a storage unit. Or a garage. Hate to say it, but I've yet to see a cover that actually protects a car outdoors. They're either going to let everything thru, or they'll trap moisture. If they're loose at all, the wind will flap the cover around and it'll abrade the paint. Rodents and bugs will get in there to seek shelter too. It's pretty much a losing deal all around.
I am really impressed with the Coverking Autobody Armor cover... Before we bought our house the plan was to keep my convertible in the driveway May-November and December-April it would be in my parents garage. Luckily we closed on a house before the convertible was done being painted.
Its pretty heavy and cumbersome for an indoor cover so I have since gotten a dust cover from Budge for just sitting in the garage..
The Autobody Armor cover claims to have ultimate outdoor weather and waterproof protection with 4-layers for breathability, protection from dings, and a fleece lining to protect the paint. It’s custom fit with as few seams as possible for water-tightness and had mirror cutouts... It’s a snug fit... You can lock it with a cable as well...
The downside is that it’s heavy and takes up space so definitely not a “throw on and off” cover and it’s over $400 with shipping and tax...

I would advise caution here; inexpensive car covers can trap moisture, causing clear coat to cloud and/or promote mildew. Unlined covers in contact with painted surfaces can react to hot sun and damage paint as well.
Regarding indoor covers, I used to cover my Camaro in the garage with a GM cloth "dust" cover until I realized the cover dropped lint and the car looked worse for it than if left uncovered.
Car covers are for UV and dust protection(warm dry climes), and in that case you should only use one that will breathe well. I f you want protection where it's gonna be wet at all, it needs structural coverage.
My IROC is outside until I can get my other car together and move it to one side of the garage. I recently bought a Covercraft NOAH outdoor car cover, PN# CB31NH. Summit, Jegs and most places online sell it for $265.00. Found it on Walmart.com for $165.00. It’s made for 82-92 F-Body and has mirror pockets.
In the 2 weeks I’ve had it, we’ve had 4” of snow, a rainstorm and a windstorm. I brushed the snow off the cover but the car was dry underneath. Rain just beads up on it. Yesterday we had 50mph winds and, while it did get air underneath it and flap a little (like Drew eluded to), it stayed on. I do have the cable & lock which I’m sure helped keep it in place. Keep in mind these were 50mph winds. It usually doesn’t move. My car is getting painted so I’m not worried about paint abrasion. The inside is pretty soft though. I’ll use it as an indoor cover once the car is painted and in the garage.
Day 1, straight out of the box. It’s less wrinkly now. Brushed 95% of the snow off. Sun melted the rest. Was dry underneath.
I’ll use it as an indoor cover once the car is painted and in the garage.
Just my ,...... Don't. It's an outdoor cover so it's heavy / thick & made to keep out all the elements and UV. ( Covercraft makes a GREAT outdoor car cover ! ) If the car is going to get stored indoors all you need is a cover to keep the dust off. Something very thin & light with a very soft layer to protect the finish is all you want to use. Another quick piece of advise....... don't use ANY car cover on a freshly painted car, I'd wait at least a couple months.
For quite a few years, my 89 sat outside and I used covers on it (cheap ones) that were basically like a wet towel when it rained.haha Went through at least 10 of those 30.00 jobs. But! It kept my dash pad and interior pristine all these years and kept the birds off of it. Birds just sit in the trees and wait until you have it uncovered. They know, oh yes they do. The paint is not that great since it's been repainted by a do-it yourselfer years ago, but it's single stage so it cleans up nice. Easy to wet sand / buff out. A couple of years ago, I discovered the Rustoleum Never Wet car covers. Pretty awesome outdoor cover I'd have to say! Now, with the completion of my 2-car garage, all 3 are now in a garage. I do use the cheap budge light covers on them to keep off dust and dripping condensation from roof metal.

I second this... I used my outdoor cover indoors as a winter cover, but then I realized during the nice months my car was getting dusty if I went weeks without taking the car out so I got a light “Indoor Stretch” cover from Budge...
I use it all winter indoors too.. It’s easy to throw on/off, stretchy, it breathes and wicks moisture and has a storage bag...
My outdoor cover is so bulky I wouldn’t even be able to fit it in the trunk...
I bought a cover off eBay in 2015/2016, all I remember is that it was $50-$60 and I think it was called the “luxury” version or something like that. It has a soft cottony underside and won’t scratch paint. It’s a very nice cover and still in great shape today. Doesn’t allow water in and won’t trap any moisture.
In comparison I also have a rainx cover from Walmart. It doesn’t keep the car dry, traps in water, and is full of rips after very little use. I bought this cover for $12 on clearance and I definitely overpaid.
