Wet sand all the rough spots until they are completely smooth. Then primer them. Only primer the spots on the car you have worked on. Paint sticks better to paint. Anyway....go and spot putty any dents or nicks in the paint. Then Primer, wet sand and primer again. Repeat this everywhere you work. Make sure the body is flawless and smooth and you will get very nice results. Well at least I did. Just got mine back about 3 weeks ago. It was a Maaco job also.
THAT is a macco job!?
Man thats one of my favorite looking cars on here. I guess what they say is true, its really in the prep and not getting the cheap (relative terms here) job. Some are better than others too i guess, look for pictures of Camrs89's 72 LeMans, that cam out pretty good, its even survived 2 winters not counting this one. He's a pro detailer though so that helped too.

Something else you can do is remove all emblems/stickers, remove the front wheel well inserts, remove all weatherstripping, etc etc etc. That way nothing gets the paint mask treatment except what absolutely has to. I'm also planning on removing the mirrors and spoiler and having those done separatly.

From a distance that Maaco job should look good. It's once you get up close that you are able to distinguish a good job from a ****ty one....

Remove all of you lights, Tail lights, side markers, liscence plates, you get the idea. This also allows a much cleaner job.
Also get an extra coat or 2 of clear. It's worth it.
I got a job a earl scheib, couldnt be happier. I'll see if I can find some pics somewhere.
This is my daily driver, so I wasn't looking for a show quality job. But it is very nice.
As long as you do the prep work, you will be good...

hole!! I will be more than willing to give you close up shots of the car. I understand what you said about the first statement...yes any car will look good from a distance. But what you don't know is that the guy who painted the car is one of my best friends. You also don't know much about paint jobs either seeing as I've had better maaco jobs on my car than most of my hot shot friends with thier $1500 ones. Its all in the prep work. Its also who you know!!
I did all the body work on my car myself. Everything from taking emblems off to puttying and wet sanding. The car has 2 base coats and 2 clear coats on it. It was cooked at 80* so that solvent bubbles wouldn't appear. I then wet sanded the entire car. Paint job: $169.33, Prep supplies: $50, Look on friends face when I told him it was a maaco job----priceless!!! Last edited by No4NJunk; Jan 23, 2002 at 01:49 PM.
