I need help and advice with convincing my dad to let me get a z28 🫤
So my dad had this foxbody as a drag car and unfortunately he is a diehard ford fan but would allow anything but a 3rd gen camaro. His reasons behind this are its unibody frame, its weak power, its "stereotypical demographic". Honestly I think it's just because he doesn't want me to try and find my way to enjoying this car. I have told him the first thing I would do is put "safety first" by reinforcing the frame with higher quality well built parts. He says "if its a muscle car and it doesn't run at least sub 10s at the drag strip it doesn't belong at my house". The sad thing about this is I have stated multiple times that I want to enjoy the car for its handling and actually suprising aerodynamic performance compared to a foxbody. I remember the first time I saw a 3rd gen camaro and I was/ still am into Nissans but there is something about a (82-92) z28 that looks just mezmerizing to me anytime I see one. For the car itself I would keep it simple and swap a 350 into it since this is my first American muscle and I want to start out simple and enjoy the car for what it is. Some other plans that I have would be upholstered seats and a Baer Brakes bbk kit. I got to say I am nothing short from in love with this body style. The one thing that is stopping me from getting one is once again my dad. This is a picture of my dad's old foxbody he use to have.

Well, welcome to the forum! Alot of really good folks on here.
Well, not pushing into anyones business, but since you asked... your dad is a car guy, which is vool. And the stangs were/are badass cars. But he should be happy that your into muscle cars and not into trouble like younger people can get into. And for him to say only 10 sec cars in the house and you to come back with just wanting a nice ride... well shows some responsibility on your part too there. I think if you got one and showed it love, your dad would see your passion for it. I mean, everyone likes what they like, a person can't dictate what you like. It'dd be like being attracted to some chick, only you can decide that you like her, someone can't decide your attractions.
Now if your dad's buying the stang for you.... hard to argue a free musclecar.

“You’re not getting a Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z for your first car. It’s too much car, insurance would be ridiculous, and I’m not paying to watch you wrap it around a pole. Start with something reliable, learn to drive, and when you’re older and paying for it yourself, you can buy whatever you want.”

Well, the young kid, Hunter, hasn't come back in to update this thread.
I'm going to go against the grain and talk about my first car that my parents bought for me. When I was a senior in high school, my parents bought me a 1980 Camaro Z28! This was in April 1980. It was pretty much the first thing that my parents had really purchased/given to me growing up. We didn't do birthday parties, nor did we get birthday presents. We really didn't even get Christmas presents. However, my parents did save money to pay for my college education and buy me a car. Same for my two brothers and my sister.
Back to the car. I still have it! I guess that my parents knew my personality and level of responsibility and trusted me with this car. I don't think that I would've bought the same type of car for any of my three older kids when they were just starting to drive. However, my youngest who is now 20, I would've bought something like this for her if she'd wanted it. She drives her grandmother's (passed away) 2014 V6 Camry and she loves the car. On the other hand, she also wants a black IROC Z to drive occasionally. My wife says NO because of no parking room but dad is still on the lookout for one !
My 1980 Z28 was in great shape until about 2010. At the time, I lived by the beach in North Florida and unfortunately, the saltwater air did a real nasty job to the car . It's going to need a major restoration that I'm planning to do myself after retirement which is coming up within the next two years.
