i have 265 50 15s on my 15*7 inch rims. they are only 26.** inches tall....and they're wide as hell. These are only on the back.
BTW the first number (265) stands for mm measured from bead to bead. the second number (50 for example) is the percentage of the first number which tells how tall the sidewall is. And of course the third is what Diameter rim it goes on.
I'm sure you know this but I just wanted to be sure because you keep mentioning 45s instead of 245s.

Hey guy,
A 45 series tire on a 15" rim would be pretty skimpy. The 45 is the aspect ratio compared to the section width of the tire. For example....a 235/60R15 would be a section width of 235mm, which is about 9 1/4" and the 60 means 60 % of that which is about 5 1/2" so that'd give you a tire diameter of 20 1/2" with a 15" rim......now...your 275/45ZR17 has a section width of 10.8" and a sidewall that's 4.9" so in total it's slightly larger in diameter than your 235/60-15 tire at almost 21".....follow this? So you don't want a 45 series tire on a 15" rim unless you are putting it onto a Hyundai accent or something

I am running 245/60R15's all the way around on stock firebird 15X7" wheels, and they fit fine. They look great too.

Go to BFGoodrich or Yokohama and they have application charts for their tires. Each tire will have range of suggested rim width. Choose a rim that is near the middle to top of the range.

If you run 255/45/17's in the front and 275/40/18's in the rear they will be the prefect size. This is what i'm going to get!
